HIGHLY IMMERSIVE PROGRAMME

HIP Implementation (2016-2018)

Year No. of Schools Targeted Achievement

2016 94 schools (Phase 1) Target achieved: 100% (1200

1106 schools (Phase 2) schools)

2017 5500 schools

2018 10,000 schools

3 Monitoring visits were conducted throughout 2016

Methodology

OBJECTIVES
i. Investigate the effectiveness of HIP
implementation in schools.

i. Observe the impact of HIP on student

outcomes.

ii. Ascertain the implementation of the

Whole School Approach.
SELF ASSESSMENT TOOL

Phase 1: 6 states (94 schools) Phase 2: 10 states (1106 schools

TEACHER AND STUDENT QUESTIONNAIRES

i. The effectiveness of HIP was measured in the From Students’ Perspective

4 thematic areas as below.
Development of Highly-immersive Environment
Students’ (3.17) mean scores were highest in this domain. This is an
indication that students are responding positively towards the
development of a highly-immersive environment which is supportive of
students’ learning.

Development of Whole-School Approach

Students’ questionnaires produced the lowest means scores in this area.
(2.60). Item analysis showed that students gave low scores to parental
involvement, community engagement and alumni in HIP activities. More
effort is needed to engage with the wider community so that the ‘Whole-
School Approach’ can become a reality.

Student Learning Outcomes

The students questionnaire generated average scores of (2.69). This
implies that the HIP implementation which is aimed at improving students’
learning outcomes is still an on-going process.

Student Behaviour change

Students scores (2.83) are above average indicative of the fact that
students are beginning to experience positive change in their behaviours
towards English language in their schools.

School Heads spearhead and support the development of HIP

immersive environment in school.
SUCCESS
Teachers interact in English with students.

School Heads engage actively with the Parent-Teachers’

Association in English language school activities.

Pupils take charge of their own language development by

engaging in English language activities.

District and State department officers play a critical role in

providing support and monitoring to ensure the school
community is committed to the implementation of HIP.
