What’s happening?
• ITC farmers are introduced and/or taught new farming techniques. Giving back to the society - ITC
E-choupal - Productivity improvement, climate-smart Agri-practices, replenishing natural resources,
providing market access, Baareh Mahine Hariyali (Ever-green/12 months green)
• Recycling and re-using the waste at production units
• Medicinal & aromatic plants project – Farmers in 500 villages educated and started earning with
this initiative
• Social & Farm forestry – 8,75,000 acres greened
• Water Stewardship Mission – Watershed development in over 1.2 million acres across 14 states
• Climate-smart villages program – Reduce greenhouse gas emissions of soya & wheat by 37% &
47% respectively. Started using e-vehicles in 5 metros causing a reduction in low carbon pathways.
• Climate Change initiatives such as the use of renewable energy, and social and farm forestry
initiatives
What's not happening?
• Initiative to educate tobacco users on health hazards of
tobacco. Not promoting this as a profit-making
company
• Initiative to increase awareness among kids and
women as them being major tobacco passive users
(forced).
• Health sector CSG funds not utilized in diseases
caused due to tobacco (cancer) section.
Are they doing enough?
ITC has taken up many initiatives including:
 Empowering farmers
 Afforestation, reducing GHG gas emission
 Watershed development
 Women empowerment
 Waste management
 Health and sanitation

In case of environmental aspects, they have made sure


that they are giving back as much as they are taking from
the nature and society.
When compared to the damage caused by tobacco for
the active as well as passive users, what they are doing is
not enough.
What would you do different?
The following steps which are not presently followed by
ITC will be taken up.
• Awareness campaigns to educate tobacco users on
health hazards of tobacco.
• Initiatives to spread awareness among kids and women
as them being major tobacco passive users (forced).
• Health sector CSG funds are to be utilized more in
cancer section.
• Increase in usage of renewable resources energy to 50
– 60%
• Use of alternative packaging such as paper instead of
plastic
• Recycling and reuse of packaging
