USE OF RICE HUSK ASH

IN CONCRETE (RHA)

PRESENTED BY

MANIKANTA
CONTENTS
• What is RHA
• How RHA produce
• RHA in concrete production
• Advantages and Disadvantages
• conclusion
WHAT IS RHA

• Obtained from burning protecting outer cover of RICE HUSK

• It consists of non-crystalline silicon di oxide (SiO2) with high
specific surface area and high pozzolanic reactivity
• The RHA can be found as natural materials,by products or
industrial wastes
HOW RICE HUSK ASH PRODUCE

• Chemical compositions of RHA are affected due to

burning process and temperature
• RHA produced by burning RICE HUSK between 600 0
to 7000
RHA IN CONCRETE PRODUCTION

• As RHA contain high amount of amorphous silica

• It is can be used as a partial replacement of cement in convectional
concrete to develops its strength and durability properties
• The RHA will be perfect substitute of silica fume for making special
concrete mixes
• From experiments it is to be found that replacement of RHA below 20% in
concrete gives neither strength in concrete nor durability
ADVANTAGES

• Higher the strength as it provides an additional CSH Gel

• Reduces pearmiability hence resistance against the chloride
attack increases
• As it consumes lime content of the concrete, sulphate attack does
not attack
• The bleeding of concrete does not occurs
DIS ADVANTAGES

• The water for convectional concrete is increased

• Choice of good quality RHA which is major factor for strength
and durability
• We cannot use only RHA as a source of materialin geopolymer
concrete
CONCLUSION

• The RHA is very good substitute of cement in both convectional concrete and In
geopolymer concrete
• The RHA can be used as a good pavements for improving the shear strength of
pavements
• Use of RHA helps in reducing the CO2 Emission creating a better environment
controlling global warming …
