 Purpose: As we talked about last lesson on the importance of comprehension,

comprehension is not just understanding text we read in school, it’s understanding
everything we are reading in everyday life, in school, at gymnastics, etc. More
importantly, as we talk more about inference, comprehension can go deeper than just
what is being said/or read.
 Expectations: During this lesson, you and I will read aloud the book that we are reading
today, and then after you will complete the main ideas and supporting details organizer
on your own, and we will learn about inference together after words.
Review
What is the main idea of a story?
- The message or overall story
and what it is about.

How does pulling supporting details

help us to understand the main
idea more?
- Supporting details is evidence
that the main idea is true. So,
when we pull text that support the
main idea, we can understand it
more.

Why is the conclusion important in the

graphic organizer?
- It helps us to gather information,
making a conclusion based on that,
and understand the ending of the
story.
Lesson

Review

 Today, we read The Boy Who Grew Flowers and you completed the main idea
and supporting details organizer. Let’s review that right now.
 What is the main idea of the story that you wrote in your graphic organizer?
 What are your 3 supporting details?
 What is your conclusion?

 Preview: Next time we are together, we will continue the use of the main
ideas and supporting details organizer, bring in a new organizer because I
want to start a longer book, and continue to use the inference graphic
organizer a little bit more.
Have a great spring break!
