INTRODUCTION
Problem play is a form of drama. It’s origin can be traced back to 19th century.

This term was coined by F.S.Boas.

Problem plays reached it’s peak of popularity by the work of Henrik Ibsen.

Every problem play aims at addressing social issues which are considered to be the evils of the society. The
various characters bought out in the play highlights different issue by the way of debate and makes people
think about the controversial realities.

 This genre was introduced by French dramatists- Alexandre Dumas and Emile Augier, bringing into
knowledge about various problems like prostitution, female emancipation, illegitimacy and business ethics.
