INTRODUCTION

Evolution of digitalization paradigm

INTRODUCTION  The first definition of the concept known as the Digital Twin was made in 2002
by Michael Grieves.

 Digital twin rooted from 3D modeling, system simulation, Digital prototyping,

etc.

 Definition by NASA for DT of a space vehicle :

“A Digital Twin is an integrated multi-physics, multiscale, probabilistic
simulation of an as-built vehicle or system that uses the best available
physical models, sensor updates, fleet history, etc., to mirror the life of
its corresponding flying twin”

 A basic Digital Twin model consists of three main parts: (a) physical products in
Real Space, (b) virtual products in Virtual Space, as well as (c) the connections
of data and information that tie the virtual and real products together.
INTRODUCTION  The Digital Twin in its original form is described as a digital informational
construct about a physical system, created as an entity on its own and linked with
the physical system in question.

 Through the recording, simulation and prediction

 Digital twin divided into

 Entity DT
 Scenario DT

 Full potentials of DT can only be enabled through integration between entity DT

and scenario DT.
5 Dimensions  MDT = (PE, VM, Ss, DD, CN)
of Digital Twin

 Physical Entities
 Virtual Models
 Data
 Services
 Connections

Five-dimension digital twin model

 The first step to reflect the physical world is to measure the parameters, such as
COGNIZING AND size, shape, structure, tolerance, surface roughness, density, hardness, etc.
CONTROLLING  To synchronize the virtual model with the real-time counterpart, real-time data
must be collected.
PHYSICAL WORLD
 Technologies used include laser measurement, image recognition measurement,
conversion measurement, and micro/nano-level precision measurement.
MODELING  Tools
 ANSYS
 AUTOCAD
 SOLIDWORKS

CONNECTION

Connections
 Predict and detect issues
ADVANTAGES  Improve productivity
 Reduce Development cost
 Reduce Development time

DISADVANTAGES • Difficult to virtually produce the twin

• Models will gradually evolve
APPLICATION

Application Fields
 Dassault
APPLICATION  Digital Twin Singapore
 Living Heart Project

 Aviation Industry
 Airbus
 NASA

 F1 Motorsport
CONCLUSION  Digital Twin has helped in the advancement of Digitalization.
 The 5-dimension digital twin model has good practicability and
scalability, and can provide a common reference model support for
applications of digital twin in different fields.
 The technology research about DT and the selection of tools require the
participants in academia and industry to judge and decide according to
specific fields and objects
