• When someone dies, there are two ways that people usually follow for what to do with the
dead body. One way is cremation, which means burning the body. The other way is burying
the body in the ground.
• Neither way is good for the environment. Cremation makes a lot of emissions, and burning
in the ground takes up a lot of space. It also puts dangerous substances in the ground.
• Natural Funeral is a US company which does water cremation and green burial. Water
cremation is a process when workers put a dead body into water, and they mix it with some
other substances. When the process ends, the body turns into a natural fertilizer.
• Green burial is similar to composting. Workers put a dead body inside a special container
with straw in it. They add some chemicals to help the composting. Both ways are legal in
three US states, and the ways help the body return to nature where it came from.
• Difficult words: emission (a gas or other substance which gets in the air and makes it dirty),
fertilizer (a thing which people put in the ground to make plants grow better), compost (old
plants, vegetables, or food which people put in the ground to help plants grow).
NEWS HEADERS
• On Tuesday, NASA´s spacecraft performed a complex maneuver to drill into the
Bennu asteroid for five seconds. In the historic operation, the spacecraft collected a
sample from an asteroid in space, over 160 million kilometers from Earth.
• Asteroids are among the leftover debris from the solar system´s formation 4.5
billion years ago, and scientists believe that the asteroid could hold clues to the
origins of life on Earth. Scientifically, it is a very exciting event because it is the first
time that humans have touched the surface of another solar system object in order
to get a sample of it.
• The spacecraft´s journey to the asteroid began in 2016, and it has been in orbit
around the asteroid for almost two years. According to NASA, there is a 1 in 2700
chance that the asteroid will hit Earth late into the next century.
• Peruvian archaeologists have uncovered a 37-meter-long cat etching in a little
explored area of the country´s celebrated Nazca Lines UNESCO heritage site.
• The geoglyph was drawn on the side of a fairly rocky hill on the Nazca plain, and it
was made by forming lines or furrows of 30 to 40 centimeters wide which outlined
the figure. Some parts, such as the eyes and mouth, were formed by piling up
rocks.
