Early Life of Murthy

 Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy was born 20 August 1946.

 He did his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from National Institute of


Engineering and master's from the IIT, Kanpur.

 Murthy first served as Research Associate under a faculty at IIM Ahmedabad.

 Eventually, he was working for PCS in Patna after which he formed Infosys.

 He was working with 6 professionals there who joined his company as co-founders.

Struggles in Initial Stages
 It took them two years to bring the first computer.

 Machineries import and registrations took them another 8 years.

 Major financial crisis.

 Kurt salmon Associates tried merging in although the idea collapsed after a year.

 One of the co-founders, Mr. Ashok Arora thought of dropping out.

 They travelled on buses and on foot while their friends were already doing very well
in their lives.

 Mr. Murthy’s wife, Sudha Murthy invested a lot of money and believed in him thought

Rays of Hope
 Liberalization (Economic Reform in India) cam into picture.

 The company got several investors and started growing eventually.

 Morgan standard came into picture for which 13% share got bailed out.

 Stocks increased by 60% in 1994.

 The company started making place in Listing Day and incidentally started appearing
in Listing Times, too.

 Then this company secured place in NASDAQ (American Stock exchange Company)

Social Contributions
 Infosys opened global education system covering 337 acres of land.

 The founder also worked for rural and urban development.

disasters.

Awards and Achievements
 Padma Vibhushan Award : S. Gopala-krishnan, Founder and CEO, Infosys
Technologies Founding member and current chief executive officer of Infosys, has
been conferred with a PadmaVibhushan.

 Infosys was selected as one of Asia's Leading Companies in the Far Eastern
Economic Review's REVIEW 200 Survey. Infosys was selected as one of the top 10
companies in India and ranked second in ‘Overall Leadership’ and first as the
‘Company that Others Try to Emulate’ in 1999.

 In 2019, Infosys was a winner of the United Nations Global Climate Action Award in
'Climate Neutral Now' category and also was ranked as the 3rd Best Regarded
Company in the World by Forbes in the same year.

 Infosys had a total of 243,454 employees at the end of December 2019.
 37.8% were of them are women.
 229,658 are software professionals and remaining 13,796 work for support and sales.

Infosys provides software development, maintenance and independent validation


services to companies in finance, insurance, manufacturing and other domains.

Finacle is the core banking product developed by Infosys which provides


universal digital banking functionality to both retail and corporate banks,
consisting of various modules in itself.

2. IIP (Infosys information platform) specialized in analytics programming
3. Panaya cloud site (which is an Israeli software company as a subsidiary
company to Infosys)

Controversies
 Accusation of visa fraud in the USA In 2011, Infosys was accused of
committing visa fraud by using B-1 (visitor) visas for work requiring H-1B (work) visas.
The allegations were initially made by an American employee of Infosys in an internal
complaint. He subsequently sued the company, claiming that he was harassed and
sidelined after speaking out. Although that case was dismissed.

 Displacement of American workers at Southern California Edison and Disney In


2015, the United States Department of Labor began an investigation of Infosys after
claims were made that the company used workers with H-1B visas to replace workers
at Disney and Southern California Edition. The investigation did not find any
wrongdoing.

 Vishal Sikka’s salary break-down CEO of Infosys got a salary of 49 crore but of
other comparative companies like PCS and Wipro were at 25 and 12 crores
respectively. This started huge controversy which ultimately led the CEO to resign
from his post.
Summary
 Infosys is an incredible story of success and successful execution of
business model were the company entered in red ocean market with
insignificant stakes and power, but company proved itself to be the
leader by managing to be the first one into innovation and suffice
example for their rivals.

 With over 82 sales and marketing offices and 123 development center
across the world majorly in India, United states, China, Japan, Middle
east and Europe have an experience of 4 decades in managing the
system and working as a global enterprise are expert in satisfying their
consumer through their digital journey.
