Welcome to Brasov!
Presentation:

Hello and Welcome to Brasov!

Brasov is a city in Transylvania, Romania and the administrative centre of Brașov County.

According to the latest Romanian census, Brașov has a population of 253,200 making it the 7th
most populous city in Romania. The metropolitan area is home to 382,896 residents.

Brașov is located in the central part of the country, about 166 km north of Bucharest and 380 km
from the Black Sea. It is surrounded by the Southern Carpathians and is part of the historical
region of Transylvania.

The city is notable for being the regional capital of the Transylvanian Saxons of
the Burzenland (Romanian: Țara Bârsei) administrative area in the past, and a large
commercial hub on the trade roads between East and West. It is also the birthplace of
the national anthem of Romania.
A short history about Brasov

• (image took from Culture Trip)

1
The oldest traces of human activity and settlements in Brașov date back to the Neolithic age
(about 9500 BCE). Archaeologists working from the last half of the 19th century discovered
continuous traces of human settlements in areas situated in Brașov: Valea Cetății, Pietrele lui
Solomon, Șprenghi, Tâmpa, Dealul Melcilor, and Noua. The first three locations show traces
of Dacian citadels; Șprenghi Hill housed a Roma-style construction. The last two locations had
their names applied to Bronze Age cultures — Schneckenberg ("Hill of the Snails"; Early
Bronze Age) and Noua ("The New"; Late Bronze Age).
Leaving this beside, did you always
wanted to visit Brasov? No worries, I
gotchu
Top attractions to visit in Brasov and its surroundings

• If you are looking for a holiday destination in the near future, Brasov could be
the right place to visit. Full of history and culture, with an impressive
geographical position and surrounded by detached landscapes, as if, from fairy
tales, the city at the foot of Tâmpa will surely impress you and offer you a
special vacation.

• In case you want to put this destination on the list, in order to discover all its
secrets, in the following I offer you some suggestions of tourist objectives in
Brașov that you should not miss. (And I'm being serious about this!)
Old Center - Council
Square

• Old Center - Council Square Although the city center does not
cover a very large area, it is full of historical monuments, cafes,
restaurants, and various cultural events are organized very often
here. Among the striking buildings you can see in the Square are:
the Council House, the Church of the Assumption, the House of
Merchants, the House of Mureș or the Filstich-Plecker House. Thus,
before leaving to explore the other tourist attractions in Brașov, we
recommend you to stop here, to make a first impression about the
history and culture of this wonderful area.
The Black Church

• The Black Church Another place marked by history,

where you will have the chance to see the largest bell in
Romania, weighing over 6,000 kg, is the Black Church.
Considered the largest Gothic-style place of worship in
southeastern Europe, it got its name in 1689, when much
of the church caught fire. Due to the statues inside the
church, its impressive dimensions and special
architecture, the Black Church is a building that you
should visit.
(and the last one)
Mount Tâmpa

• Mount Tâmpa To admire the city of Brașov in its true

splendor and to enjoy the special natural landscapes, you
must climb Mount Tâmpa. You can get here very easily,
by cable car, and along the way you can have an
overview of the city and its many tourist attractions.
Also on Mount Tâmpa you will see closely the emblem
of Brașov and you will walk on the edge of the fortress
wall, where you will admire the surroundings and enjoy
the fresh air.
Brasov was and it still remains my favorite city from all over Romania, and
to be honest I had good days reading about this country.
Hope someday I will go there like everyone did and socialise with new
friends. Until then, I have to make some money.
