The Philippine GMO regulations are in compliance with


the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and the Codex
Commission Principles and Guideline. The regulations
are continuously evaluated and modified to conform to
internationally accepted standards and best practices.

Established in 1962, aims to protect the health of


consumers and ensure fair practices in the food trade. This
international forum brings together scientists, technical
experts, government regulators and international consumer
and industry organizations.
Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

- is an international agreement (treaty),


concluded and adopted in the framework of the
Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
What is the Protocol’s objective?

“contribute to ensuring an adequate level of protection in


the field of the safe transfer, handling and use of living
modified organisms resulting from modern biotechnology
that may have adverse effects on the conservation and
sustainable use of biological diversity, taking also into
account risks to human health, and specifically focusing on
transboundary movements”
