Where are they
found?
The deciduous forests extend
into North America and the
northernmost are found in
Sonora, Mexico. Sometimes
called tropical savanna, this
ecosystem once reached
continuously from northern
Mexico over a thousand
miles into Central America,
but now only 15% remains
and only 1% is in protected
status

Why are they called the
monsoon forests?

The tropical deciduous forests are also


called monsoon forest because the trees in
these forests shed their leaves during dry
season and re-grow during monsoon. ... The
dry season is followed by heavy rainfall or
monsoon and the trees re-grow their leaves.

Climate
They experience an extremely humid
climate (almost 80 to 90 percent) usually
throughout the year, the temperature

Vegetation
Deciduous forests are
home to trees such as
oak, birch, beech, aspen,
elm and maple. Tropical
and subtropical forests
also have teak trees, palm
trees and bamboo. Plants
found in these forests
include flowers, ferns,
mosses and herbs.
Wildlife
In India, Lion, tiger, pig, deer, and
elephant are some of the animals that make
these forests their homes. Outside India, in
the United States, mammals that are
generally found in a deciduous forest
include bears, raccoons, squirrels, skunks,
wood mice and even deer..
