WHA T I S R IC E
WINE?
• IN MANY REGIONS OF ASIA, RICE WINE IS A
TRADITIONAL ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE. IT'S MADE
BY COMBINING STEAMED RICE, YEAST, AND
WATER IN A MICROBIAL FERMENTATION
PROCESS. RICE WINE IS AN ALCOHOLIC
BEVERAGE MADE FROM RICE THAT HAS BEEN
SACCHARIFIED (OR BROKEN DOWN A COMPLEX
CARBOHYDRATE) AND FERMENTED BY
MICROORGANISMS AND ENZYMES.
• WHEN COMPARED TO TRADITIONAL WINE (MADE FROM
GRAPES OR OTHER FRUITS), AS WELL AS BEER, WINE
MADE FROM RICE CONTAINS MORE ALCOHOL. ITS
ALCOHOL CONTENT CAN BE IN THE RANGE OF 18% TO 25%.
IN COMPARISON, REGULAR WINE USUALLY CONTAINS
10% TO 20% ALCOHOL, WHERE BEER RANGES 4% TO 8%
ALCOHOL. THEREFORE, IT IS NATURAL TO ASSUME THAT
DRINKING TOO MUCH OF THIS WINE OR ANY OTHER
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE FOR THAT MATTER MIGHT NOT BE
BENEFICIAL FOR THE BODY. 
• RICE WINE IS OFTEN CONFUSED WITH RICE WINE VINEGAR (ALSO CALLED 
RICE VINEGAR), WHICH HAS BEEN FURTHER FERMENTED INTO ACID FOR
COOKING AND TASTES A BIT SWEETER THAN TRADITIONAL WHITE VINEGAR.
RICE WINE MEANT FOR COOKING CAN USUALLY BE STORED FOR A FEW YEARS
IN A COOL, DARK PLACE (SUCH AS A CABINET) AND STILL KEEP WELL.
POSSIBLY HIGH-QUALITY TYPES ARE INTENDED FOR DRINKING, SUCH AS
SAKE. THEY MAY TASTE BEST WHEN DRUNK SHORTLY AFTER THEY’RE SOLD
AND SHOULD BE CONSUMED QUICKLY AFTER THE BOTTLE HAS BEEN OPENED.

• RICE WINE HAS ALSO BEEN DEMONSTRATED TO BOOST THE PROTECTIVE


FUNCTION OF THE SKIN. RICE WINE HAS BEEN SHOWN TO PROTECT AGAINST
UV-INDUCED SKIN AGING IN STUDIES DONE IN KOREA. THE EXPRESSION OF
PROCOLLAGEN INCREASED WHEN FIBROBLASTS (CONNECTIVE TISSUE CELLS)
WERE TREATED WITH RICE WINE.
BENEFITS
• THE PRESENCE OF LACTIC ACID AND BACTERIA IN RICE WINE MAKES IT A
PROBIOTIC, THEREBY PROMOTING STOMACH HEALTH.

• ANTICANCER POTENTIAL 
• MAY SERVE AS AN ANTI-BACTERIAL SUBSTANCE 
• MAY HELP SLOW DOWN THE SIGNS OF AGING AND PROTECT AGAINST THE
HARMFUL EFFECTS OF UV RAYS.

PROCEDURES
It is recommended that the rice be rinsed three times until the water is
clean. Rice should be cooked and boiled until it is soft.

Transfer the cooked rice to a bowl and put it aside to cool.

When the mixture is cool enough to handle, add the rice leaven and whisk
it completely.

Mix completely, then keep in a plastic jar with a cling wrap lid

store in a dry location for a few days.


TO HAVE A RICE WINE IT NEEDED TO BE IN A PROCESS THAT WE CALLED
FERMENTATION

WHAT IS ALCOHOLIC FERMENTATION? ALCOHOLIC FERMENTATION IS A


BIOTECHNOLOGICAL PROCESS ACCOMPLISHED BY YEAST, SOME KINDS
OF BACTERIA, OR A FEW OTHER MICROORGANISMS TO CONVERT
SUGARS INTO ETHYL ALCOHOL AND CARBON DIOXIDE
DOCUMENTATION ON MAKING THE PRODUCT
EVALUAT IO N I N T H E
PRODUCT
• THE RESULT OF THE PRODUCT DID NOT LIVE UP TO MY EXPECTATIONS; I HAD
HOPED IT WOULD LOOK FANTASTIC, BUT IT CAME OUT HOW I DID NOT EXPECT.
HOWEVER, THE WINE HAS A LOVELY AROMA AND FOR THE TASTE TESTING IT
TASTE LIKE A GRAPE WINE, WHICH ALSO MATCHES THE ALCOHOL CONTENT OF
THE OTHER WINES.
CONCLUSION

• AT THE END OF THE EXPERIMENT, I LEARNT HOW TO CREATE RICE WINE,


WHICH IS A TRADITIONAL ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE IN MANY ASIAN COUNTRIES
AND ITS IMPORTANCE. ALSO, WHILE WORKING ON THE PROJECT, I
DISCOVERED THAT HOW ALCOHOLIC FERMENTATION WORK. RICE WINE HAS
BEEN STUDIED FOR ITS INTENTION TO BOOST THE SKIN'S PROTECTIVE
FUNCTION AS WELL AS SKIN WHITENING. AS A RESULT, RICE WINE APPEARS
TO BE A POSSIBLE PROTECTANT AGAINST SKIN AGING. DESPITE THE FACT
THAT RICE WINE IS SAID TO HAVE NUMEROUS HEALTH BENEFITS.
