WHAT IS HISTORY?

• Most people define history as “what-really-happened in the

past”
• But history is not just what-really-happened in the past but a
complex intersection of truth, bias and hopes.
• No source has revealed the full truth till now.
• But yet the fabrications tell us much about societies beliefs and
dramas.
THE BEST APPROACH TO HISTORY

• How should we best approach to the past?

• Is there any hope of recovering the past that can operate as a
guide to future?
• It’s not the full and unbiased truth about history the exploration
of the past must reveal something of value to our lives right?
• The answer to all these questions is that history is both
as the unfolding and as the recording of the past must
proceed and it will whether or not anyone wishes to it.
• We must make use of the so-called facts of history and
the data we are left with whatever the condition is.
REMEMBERED, RECOVERED AND
INVENTED HISTORY
• We must gather all the information as much as we can from the
different sources.
• Next we have to ask about how this information came down to us.
• And yes, the thinking of “Was the data distorted or could it have
been distorted in some way during its transmission from the time it
really happened to our age?” usually end up putting the data into one
or more of the three categories remembered recovered or invented
history.
Remembered history
• The personal collection of an individual who witnessed an event.

Recovered history
• The lost history or forgotten but later reclaimed usually through
some sort of investigation.
Invented history
• This is often well known to be untrue but exist in public
conscience as “history”.
PURPOSE OF EXPLORING HISTORY

We must remember that the purpose of exploring history is not

merely to uncover what really happened but to shed light on what
is happening.
The best we can do is keep our eyes open and keep our biases in
check. And what history can teach us is found not just in the
moments it tries to describe, but also in what we choose to look at
and how we choose to represent it.
• From this presentation, we got to know about how
history is important to us and what role history
plays in shaping our future.
