INDUSTRY OVERVIEW
• Desserts cater to our impulse for indulgence, such that even nutrition- and weight-conscious consumers often find themselves craving
rich, fattening desserts. The power of indulgence as a consumer impulse is discernible in the ice cream market, where super premium
ice creams are often the fastest-growing product segment.
• Thousands of marketers compete in the dessert market. They range from artisans that make and sell a single type of dessert in a
single shop to large international conglomerates whose products are available in large food retailers in nearly every nation. The
market also plays host to a multitude of imported products.
• In fact, it's a staple food in the country second only to rice. For this reason, the bakery business in the Philippines is one of the most
profitable ventures you can invest in. Ideal for: Full-time entrepreneurs with experience in baking either through a previous job in a
bakery or paid hands-on training.
• Cupcakes are a niche market within the baking and culinary industry.

• From a relatively small and unpopular sector, baking in the Philippines has grown into a large industry that provides greater business
and employment opportunities. The industry, which is primarily traditional in nature, has continued to thrive in today’s modern era as
it welcomes and embraces technology and culinary trends, slowly but surely.
• Baked goods such as breads and cakes have become a huge part of Filipino lifestyle. Almost every household opts to enjoy their
breakfast with a cup of coffee and bread, and celebrates special occasions with cakes. Breads, aside from being a reliable snack, also
reflect the culture and history of some provinces in the country.
• Considering the large and reliable Filipino market, the local baking industry remains strong. This can be seen in the number of bake
shops and stores located in commercial malls and busy streets across the country.

SUSTAINABILITY AND EXPANSION
STRATEGY
• USE LOCAL AND ORGANIC INGREDIENTS
• Think about buying your produce locally. Source free-range eggs, organic butter, milk, and flour from a
local farmer or mill instead of relying on produce to be delivered from huge distances.  This is known as
lowering your 'Carbon Footprint’. The more you limit your transportation needs and choose to source
your ingredients from the closest producers, the smaller impact you’ll have on our environment.
• You could also consider making some of your ingredients on the premises. It’s more eco-friendly (and can
be a cost-saving measure too) if you make your own buttercream, chocolate sauces, and chocolate chips.
If this seems impossible, and we understand that it may be, then choose to work with “green” suppliers
or those businesses that are also committed to sustainability.
• SOURCE EVERYTHING IN A SUSTAINABLE WAY
• When you're looking at investing in new equipment, fitting out your space or thinking about product
packaging try and make use of recycled and re-purposed materials. You can also invest in energy-efficient
appliances which will help you cut down on your power and water consumption all whilst helping you
create an environmentally-friendly bakery. Some appliances you can install that are energy-efficient
include CFL bulbs and LED lights, spot air conditioners, and motion sensor lights for bathrooms.
