Movements

of Animals
• There are some animals you see around you.

• One of characteristic of animals is movement.


There are many ways that animals move.

• Some animals use four legs to walk, run hop and


jump.

• There are animals with no legs. They move by
crawling and by swimming.
• Animals that can crawl.
• There are many animals that move by swimming.
• Fishes and whales have tails. They uses their tails to
push themselves against the water.

tentacles. They use
their tentacles for
movement, for
protection, and for
getting food.
• Birds and insects move by flying. They have wings
to use for flying.

• Flying is a way of migration from one place to


another.
• Animals and insect that can hop.
• Their wings flap up and down, their push the animals
forward. Wings also keep birds steady.

• Their wings have hollow bones. These bones are


light enough to enable the birds to fly.

• Almost all insects move by flying. Unlike birds with


a pair of wings, some insects have two pair of wings.
Animals also move
around in search
for food.
• An eagle can catch fish. It swoops down over the
water and catches a fish with its claws.
• Octopuses and squids move their tentacles to catch
food. They release an ink to mislead their prey. The
ink in the water makes it easy for them to catch
another animal.
• A humpback whale blows a “net of bubbles” to trap
a group of fish.

• When the group of fish is packed in the middle of the


“net of bubbles” the whale swallows it.
• A rattle snakes bites its prey to inject poison into the
prey’s body. While the prey slowly weakens because
of the poison, the snake starts to swallow it whole.
• A frog sticks out its long tongue to catch an insect.
• A crocodile catches food in the water. It grabs the
animal with its large jaws. It the bites the animal into
pieces the swallows it.
