USING STRESS

IN SENTENCES
One important feature of
the English language is the
use of stress. In
English,you do not
communicate using one
word at a time. You speak
in PHRASES AND CLAUSES.
You may accurately utter
individual words, but it is
not enough.YOU HAVE TO
LEARN TO SEE THE
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
THE DIFFERENT PARTS
OF A WORD.
If a word consists of one,two
or more syllables,one of these
syllables will have to stand out
over the others.The same
principle applies in
phrases,clauses and
sentences. If you fail to put the
right stress,your listener might
misinterpret the meaning.
ASA GENERAL
RULE,STRESS IS USED TO
CLARIFY THE SPEAKER’S
MEANING RATHER THAN
MERELY TO REVEAL THE
SPEAKER’S FEELINGS
ABOUT WHAT HE IS
SAYING.
IDENTIFY WORDS WITH
PRIMARY STRESS IN THE
FOLLOWING SENTENCES:

for strengthening the heart
than reaching down and

and stress come from unresolved
conflicts.
4.A forgiving spirit is the one
basic,necessary ingredient for a
solid relationship.
5.Forgiveness frees us from guilt
and allows us to interact
positively with other people.
