NATIONAL PARK

• Snowdonia National Park is on the west coast of Britain and covers 823 square miles of
diverse landscapes. It is the largest National Park in Wales and is home to nearly 30,000
people.  It also boasts the highest mountain in England and Wales, Mount Snowdon –  a
popular destination for ramblers and climbers.
• With wild landscapes and villages steeped in history, Snowdonia National Park is a
breathtaking destination for activity holidays, short breaks or days out with family and
friends. It’s best known for hiking, but there’s plenty more to enjoy, from waterfalls, lakes
and world-class mountain biking to a vintage steam railway that climbs the highest peak
in Wales.
• Snowdonia attracts thousands of visitors each year, who come to admire the stunning
landscape or take part in various outdoor sports. With a plethora of historic sites,
Snowdonia National Park is ideal for history enthusiasts and is home to, Conway Castle,
Dolwyddelan Castle, Caernarfon Castle and Cymer Abbey all within easy reach from the
park.
• The National Park Authority’s aims are to conserve and enhance the natural beauty,
wildlife and cultural heritage of the area, promote opportunities to understand and enjoy
its special qualities; and to foster the economic and social well-being of its communities.
• Tourism thrives, stimulated by the possibilities for climbing, hill walking, fishing,
and sightseeing. Tourist centres in and near the park include Bala, with
recreational facilities on Bala Lake, the largest natural lake in Wales; Betws-y-
Coed, noted for its waterfalls, wooded gorges, and picturesque bridges
