Society/Community Guidance
• Community-based guidance is defined as the provision of comprehensive guidance
services, including health and social services, by formal and informal caregivers in the
home.
• Community guidance provide answer of all those unknowns which are helpful in making
choices and adjustments in solving problems
• This continues throughout the life
• These are essential to meet the varied needs of individuals in the society
• Individuals firmly step upon values and principles
• Continue their effort to learn throughout their lives
• Participate successfully in economic life and to have opportunities to upward social
mobility
• Act as responsible citizen and be active citizens
Society/Community Guidance
• New interpretations of our way of life resulted in changes
• The concept of society as an organized group of individuals bound
together by similarity of interests and activities is enlarging not only
geographically but ideologically
• Traditional mores and customs are breaking down
• Every person is expected to utilize his abilities and experiences for the
benefit of others and his own advancement
• The climatic conditions growing out of the world unrest affect
practically every phase of human experience
• Adjustment and improvement of the many current challenging
situations is the individual responsibility

• Raising of access to guidance services
• Promoting career management skills and motivation of citizens in relation to
lifelong career development issues
• Coordination and networking of services at national, regional and local levels
• Use of ICT in guidance programs
• Human resources development
• Platform for dialogue and consultations on issues
• Promotion of synergies and complementarity of actions and services
• Targeted to citizens of all ages
Purposes of Community guidance
• Another purpose is;
• To build a humane, peaceful, just and caring society which will uphold
welfare rights, facilitate the meeting of basic human needs, release
people's creative energies, help them achieve their aspirations, build
human capacity and self reliance, and participate fully in all spheres of
social, economic and political life.
• Promote social and economic development
• Promote a safe and healthy environment
Basic Principles of Community Guidance
• Understand the characteristics of population and environment of the
catchment area to serve or compile relevant area
• The data gained must be factual and theoretical (object, fact-finding needs
assessment)
• Communicate to the community “what is learned about the community
and population”
• Goals should be specified, priorities established & procedures identified
for achieving the goals
• Public relations program must be ensured that community is aware at all
times of activities and accomplishments
• A planned, ongoing program of evaluation is essential for improvement
and public support
Community conditions for guiding and
securing individuals
• Differences in the social status of families in a community often reflected in the
attitudes of individuals or groups
• Differences in dress, in habits of speech, in social manner, in point of views and in
values are often seen
• In consolidated schools rivalries and clanish customs often appear and cause
feelings of hostility in groups
• Understand the assembly of facts (Facts themselves are misleading they must be
interpreted by references to other facts and to the circumstances they are found)
• It is important to know the influences that were responsible for one’s behaviour
Domains of Community Guidance
• Provide guidance through formal schools, colleges and universities, vocational
institutes and madrasas
• Religious guidance
• Media like TV channels, newspaper, radio
• ENGOs, clubs etc
• Government agencies and institutes like social welfare, police etc
• International organizations like UNESCO, WHO, USAID etc
• Scientific and professional events and activities like meetings, conferences,
seminars, publications etc

• Community agencies services to promote physical and mental health
• Provide leadership in areas of human welfare
• Discover the personal, social needs and problems of people
• Promote equitable, acceptable and affordable access for all in education
• Cooperation between educational institutions and community

• Use cost-effective, appropriate technologies that create useful work opportunities, supporting a
fair distribution of resources

• To assist in the smooth delivery of services by identifying and removing obstacles
• To strengthen the social contract between government and communities

• To pass on community concerns and problems to government structures
• To support and nurture the increased exchange of information
• To improve government-community networks
• Secure appropriate coordination between sectors, disciplines, agencies and
departments
• Priorities programs that are identified by the beneficiaries themselves and which may
lead to improvements in the lives of everyone, paying particular attention to the
most vulnerable, disabled and disadvantaged
Community contribution of guidance
• Encourage the involvement of communities in matters of local government.
• Municipalities must begin to focus their energies on a clear set of
developmental outcomes, including:
• The provision of household infrastructure and services
• The creation of live able, integrated cities, and rural areas
• Local economic development
• Community empowerment and redistribution
• Encourage full, continuing and meaningful participation of individuals and
groups through direct democracy and involvement

• Community sports workers develop sporting activities by introducing new sports into primary schools
and host sporting tournaments in communities.

• Community-based protection empowers communities to obtain their
rights safely and with dignity.
• Crisis-affected communities and the humanitarian actors who assist
people can identify a community's most serious protection risks,
explore their causes and effects, and jointly decide how to prevent
and respond to them.
