WHY SHIPS FLOAT

Buoyancy

Buoyancy is when an object has a tendency to float. How does this link with boats you might ask? The
truth is buoyancy and boats go hand in hand truth be told without buoyancy boats wouldn’t be able to float
at all. So after hearing that you might be wondering if buoyancy is a component into making boats float
then what are the others well hop on over to the next slide and ill tell you.
Hollowness

Have you ever played on a hollow log at the park or gone through a hollow tube on the playground.
Did you know that boats are hollow you might be thinking to yourself but there's people on it and
furniture. Yes that might be so but just like a log at the park there may be a snail but its still hollow.
Now you’re asking how this goes with Buoyancy well remember how I said buoyancy was how light
weight objects floated well aren’t hollow objects light weight?
Boat shape

Now we've talked about Buoyancy Hollowness but what about boat shape. How boats are
shaped is very important have you ever seen a triangle boat No? Well that’s because Boats
have to be able to cut through water be hollow and have buoyancy this means that the boat
has to be a cup shape if you’ve ever seen the bottom of a boat you’ve seen the small line on
the bottom of the boat that is for cutting through water to gain speed.
conclusion
Now that we’ve talked about boat shape hollowness and buoyancy among others lets talk
about how it all works together. To shorten it up the hollowness helps the buoyancy and the
shape of the boat helps the hollowness so they can all work together to get the boat afloat.
That’s how the parts of the boat and the science of the natural world work together I hope
you think about this the next time you see a boat.
