INTRODUCTION
 Assosa University is located in Assosa municipality area
which is the administrative town of Benshangul Gumuz
Regional State that far away around 660 km from Addis
Ababa.

 The University is one of the third generation public


universities in Ethiopia which is established in 2011 G.C
 The University officially embarked on its service on
June 2011G.C.

 Initially, the academic wing was launched with 100


instructors , 5 faculties consisting 17 undergraduate
fields of studies (departments).

 However, currently these figures has been changed


roughly to 853 instructors , 7 colleges and two schools
consisting 37 undergraduate fields of studies.
VISION, MISSION, GOALS & CORE VALUES

 As of higher academic institution world wide, Assosa University has

adopted the following vision, mission goals and core values .

 Vision

 Assosa University aspires to be one of the top ten universities in Ethiopia

by 2025 G.C.

 Mission
 Assosa University is dedicated to contribute graduates that are competent

in knowledge, skill and attitude in their respective fields; undertake

problem-based research and render pertinent services to the community .


 Goals
 In order to meet and exceed the quality and standard requirements
of students and stakeholders, some of the goals of ASU are to: 

 Offer relevant, skill/practical full teaching, and research-led


programs of study;

 Prepare graduates with the requisite knowledge, skills and


attitudes embodied in the graduate profile of academic programs;

 Strengthen assessment methods that validly, reliably and fairly

evaluate measurable learning outcomes;

POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

 Directs the teaching and research activities of the department.

 Promotes the enhancement of the quality and relevance of


teaching and research in the department.

 Initiates proposal ideas for discussions by DC


 Follows up and executes the decisions and recommendations of
the AC and the DC.

 Seeks to provide opportunities for educational and professional


development of the staff and students of the department.

 Follows up on the processing of appointments, promotions,
salary increments and other benefits due to the staff
members of the department based on rules and regulations
of the University.
 Ensures the efficient running of the department.
 Prepare plans and programs for the activities of the
department and closely supervises the implementation.
 Creates conducive atmosphere for the expansion of
academic and research efforts in the department.

SWOT ANALYISIS OF THE DEPARTMENT
 STRENGTH
 Respect the rule and regulation of the university (registrar schedule)

 Presence of well communication both horizontally and vertically

 Offering practical based teaching as much as possible

 Timely accomplish course matters

 keeping students’ record data and make available if needed

 Good social relation and smooth communication of the staff

members
WEAKNESSES

 Lack of specialized instructors in soil science .

 Low participation on community services

 Low participation in research work on the subject matter


of the department

 Absence of high status academicians in the department

 Absence of standardized directive of the department


THREATS

Bureaucracy issue in due processing (specially

during purchasing materials)

COVD-19
Lack of laptop computers in the department
STRATEGIC GOALS

1) Develop standardized directive of the department in


university level

2) Producing high competitive graduate from the learner


in the department.

3) Become the first community service provider


department in the college

4) Scoring at least four research work proposal at call for


proposal time of our college.
5) Launch MSc program in soil science

6) Prepare the laboratory to generate income

 Communicate with quality assurance coordinator and other


stake holders.

 Assigning class mentor and follow up


 Make follow up of students score continuously and design the
way that they able to get good achievement then become
competitive person.

 Checking whether the practical based courses are supported

 Analysis the result of need assessment

 Prepare the cost of sample analysis per parameter
 Prepare the cost distribution format between the
technician and the university based on other university
