SHIMLA
The land of snow-clad mountains, old-world architecture, and endless tourist spots and activities, Shimla is
one of the most popular tourist places in India. Due to its strategic location in the beautiful landscapes of
Himachal Pradesh, it often makes for a great weekend getaway for the residents of North India.

With the abundance of tourist places in Shimla for exploration, you will be surprised by the many wonders
that the hill station offers, including but not limited to the Ridge, the Viceregal House, the State Museum,

1.THE RIDGE
OF SHIMLA
Located in the heart of the 'British Summer
Capital' - Shimla, The Ridge is a wide open
street located on the side of Shimla Mall
Road. The Ridge has everything, from shops
selling some exclusive artefacts to the
spectacular view of the snow-capped
mountain ranges set against an orangish hued
sky. It is famous for a lot of things, but best
known for shopping. This place is a delight
for all kinds of tourists, and the old British
establishments beckon visitors from all over
to this centre of the beautiful hill station.
The Ridge is not just a market place but also
the social hub of the city. This wide open
space is thronged by locals and nature
enthusiasts as well as travellers bored of the
sightseeing. The road is lined with cafes,
bars, boutiques, shops and restaurants
attracting the huge crowd that visit the
famous Mall Road.
2.GREEN
VALLEY
The Green Valley is a beautiful and
breathtaking mountain range that falls on the
way to Kufri from Shimla. This spectacular
valley is every tourists' answered prayer to
being able to find a place bereft of pollution,
constant traffic jams and incessant noise and
din. The Green Valley is surrounded by
verdant hills on all sides that are covered
with thick forests of pine and deodar. It is
not uncommon to sight some Yaks
wandering and grazing around in the valley.
This makes it one of the most famous tourist
destinations and the most loved photography
point in Shimla. The Green Valley, thanks to
its beauty and grace, has also featured in
numerous Bollywood movies.
3.KUFRI
While in Shimla, visit its colder, higher
and less crowded cousin, Kufri just 13
km away from the main town. The
views and sceneries here only get better,
and the landscapes more flattering, a bit
untouched with the tourist rush.
One must visit Kufri's zoological park
which is famous for having rare species
of Antelopes, Felines, Bears and birds
including Himalayan Monal, which is
the state bird of Himachal Pradesh.
Mashru peak is the highest point here
and one can reach by trekking upto that
point. Otherwise, Kufri itself is very
cold and is used as a ski ground during
winters. There are accommodation
options also available here. Wildflower
Hall is also located nearby.
4.JAKHOO
HILL
Jakhoo Hill is the highest peak in
Shimla. Standing at 8,000 feet, it offers
a fantastic perspective of the
Himalayas. Jakhoo Hill is also home to
an ancient temple and a towering statue
of Lord Hanuman, the monkey god; a
symbol of unwavering energy and
devotion.
5.CHAIL
This small village in Himachali is situated at
a height of 2250 m above sea level and is
known as a hiker's paradise. Surrounded by
lush greenery and mesmerizing views from
such a great height, Chail is bound to give a
tourist a memorable travelling experience to
a tourist.
This place is famous for having the world's
highest cricket and polo grounds and has a
luxurious resort situated on three hilltops.
Once the summer capital of the Patiala
Kings, the palace has now been converted

6.KIALA
FOREST
Kiala Forest is situated in the valley of
Kotkhai in Shimla. Certainly a fascinating

TEMPLE
Taradevi Temple which is situated Shoghi,
also known as city of temples is also a place
to relax through spirituality. This temple
considered to be 250 years old is situated on
the top of the Tara Parvat.
Devoted to the Tibetan Buddhists Goddess
Tara, she is believed to be one of the nine
sisters of Goddess Durga. The idol of the
deity placed in the temple is wooden as
believed to be brought by the Sen Dynasty
from West Bengal. If you are visiting the
town during sharad Navratri, you can also
enjoy the special pooja conducted on the
Ashtami.
9.HIMACHAL
STATE
MUSEUM
The Himachal State Museum is located on
the Shimla Mall Road and has unique
collectables like ancient coins, paintings and
other handicraft items collected from all
over the state and country, the aesthetics of
which are influenced by the Pahari form of
art.
The museum also has a doll gallery which
has several bride and groom dolls among
many others which are admired by all
visitors. Some archeological artefacts are
also found at the Himachal State Museum
which includes stone images from the 8th
century. In colonial times, the grand building
housed Lord William Beresford, the Military
Secretary to the then Viceroy in India.
10.CHRIST
CHURCH
The Christ Church in Shimla is the second
oldest church in entire northern India and is
a site of pure devotion as well as
architectural beauty. The church, which took
11 long years to complete, stands as a
reminder of the British colonisation in
India. 
The Shimla Christ Church is inspired by the
neo-gothic style of architecture and is
complete with a front porch, church bells
and five stained glass windows that
represent different virtues of Christianity.
This and the fact that this majestic church
has appeared in a number of famous
Bollywood movies, such as Black and 3
Idiots, makes it a popular tourist attraction
that people love to visit.
11.KALI BARI
TEMPLE
Kali Bari Temple of Shimla is an ancient
place of worship dedicated to Goddess Kali.
It was built in 1845 and is considered of
immense religious importance for the
devotees. The shrine houses a captivating
idol of Goddess Kali beautifully adorned
with jewellery and colourful flowers.
Located in Shimla, very close to the Shimla
City Mall, it is often visited by devotees in
large number. The temple premise is kept
clean and is well-maintained, and devotees
can sit for hours here absorbing the heavenly
vibe. Many prefer chanting or meditating
here to contemplate issues they are facing as
they seek power and energy from Goddess
Kali to face and fight them.
12.HIMALAYAN
BIRD PARK
A little aviary, Himalayan Bird Park in
Shimla is home to rare and exotic birdlife as
well as iridescent monal pheasant which is
Himachal's former state bird. This nature
park, located in the heart of the city,
opposite to Vice Regal Lodge is visited by
thousands of locals and tourists throughout
the year. One can take a walk around the
park and explore the rich collection of plants
and trees.
The atmosphere of the Himalayan Bird Park
is calming to the soul and apart from
looking at birds, one can also go there to get
some fresh air. Summers are the best time to
visit Himalayan Bird Park, because, during
winters, the place gets covered in snow. 
13.VICEREGAL
LODGE
It is a perfect place for history lovers.
Built in 1888, this six story building
constructed in Scottish Baronial style
once served as the residence of Lord
Dufferin, the British Viceroy of India.
Today, this lodge houses several articles
and pictures that will remind you of the
British rule. It is popularly known as the
Rashtrapati Niwas.
14.KUTHAR
FORT
Kuthar Fort welcomes tourists to step back
in time and re-visit the historic moments
again. Nestled at the hilltop of the Kuthar
Mountains, the fort allows people to
overlook the magnificent views of the
surrounding environment and the hills
around. It is a great place for some leisure
time and vacation.
15.SUMMER
HILL
Summer Hill is a place that offers its tourists
an exceptional holiday experience with a
soothing environment. Unlike other spots in
Shimla, this attraction is less-crowded and
offers pleasant weather for couples to get
away from the day-to-day chores.
16.KALKA-
SHIMLA TOY
TRAIN
The Kalka to Shimla route is best travelled
by way of the toy train that runs on a
narrow-gauge track and is known for its
dramatic views of the hills and surrounding
villages. The historic Kalka Shimla Toy train
is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List
and takes individuals on a ride amongst vast
green hills and deodar and pine forests.
The journey was carved through the
abundance of nature in Himachal Pradesh
during the British rule due to which the
Kalka Shimla Toy Rastafari train is bound to
take you back to a completely different era
in history and through one of the most
scenic railway journeys in India.
17.CHADWICK
WATERFALL
Chadwick Falls is located in the Glen
Forests of the beautiful city of Shimla. This
stream of water trickles from a height of
about 100 metres. Some explorers recall a
walk through the forest as an adventurous
experience because of the damp and dark
environment created by the thick canopying
forest.
. The Britishers found it difficult to
pronounce this name and hence started
calling the waterfall Chadwick. Some say a
scientist named Chadwick committed
suicide here, and therefore, it is called so.
No matter what the origin of the name is,
this beautiful location is a stone's throw
away from the city and must be visited by
everyone exploring Shimla.
18.NALDEHRA
This tranquil hill station was a favourite of
the Viceroy Lord Curzon, who not only
designed India’s first 9-hole golf course
here, but also named his third daughter
Alexandra Naldehra after it. Nowadays,
Naldehra, at 7,200 feet altitude, boasts a
challenging golf course that is rated amongst
the best in the country. For those more
interested in trekking, Naldehra is also home
to Shaily Peak, whose hiking trail runs a
steep 8 kms to the summit for beautiful
views.
