TYPES OF COMPUTERS

There are many types of Computers. Some
of them are:
1. Microcomputers
2. Game Consoles
3. Mobile Computers
4. Mini Computers
5. Mainframe Computers
6. Super Computers
7. Embedded Computers
1. Microcomputers
•They have their CPU on a single chip. Since single chip CPU’s are also
called microprocessors hence Microcomputers are the Computers
that have microprocessors.
Eg: Desktop Computers, In-Car Computers

2. Game Consoles
• Fixed Computers with specialized hardware for
entertainment purpose like Gaming.
• Have fast processors and large memory.

3. Mobile Computers
• Smaller in size microcomputers are called mobile computers.
Types of Mobile Computers:
i. Cellphone/Smartphone/
Handheld computers
ii. E-readers
iii. Handhold game consoles

iv. Tablet computers


v. Laptops and Notebook
Large Samsung Galaxy smartphones,
computers capable of web browsing, e-mail
access, video playback, document
editing, file transfer, image editing,
and other tasks common on
smartphones.
4. Mini Computers
• Processing and storage capabilities more than
microcomputer but smaller than the mainframe
computers.
• Can perform multiple jobs simultaneously.

5. Mainframe Computers
• Large computers designed to handle huge volumes of
data at very fast processing speeds.
• Used in large organizations for critical applications
such as census, industry.

6. Super Computers
• Capable of handling huge amount of calculations.
• Support more than a hundred users at a time.
• Most expensive computers.

7. Embedded Computers
• Single-chip computer integrated into other devices
and is dedicated to other functions of that device.
• Also called microcomputers.
• There are embedded computers in machines like
telephones, televisions, cameras, etc.
