PAST PERFECT SIMPLE

• The past perfect is a verb tense used to talk about actions that were completed before
some point in the past.
• We form the past perfect simple with had and the past participle of the verb.
TIME CLAUSES (WHEN, AFTER, BEFORE )

• Are used to link two past actions, one of which happened earlier than the other. The
action which happened first is in the past perfect simple and the action which followed is
in the past simple
• EXAMPLE
• After she had read the book, she returned it to the library
We use the Past Perfect Simple for an action which took place before a
specific time or another action in the past.
EXAMPLE
I had cleaned the house before my sister got back
