It has been a long time coming. It is a
journey that began 10 years ago.
Today, as I reflect upon the hardships
that I have overcome, I realize that I
will forever be grateful:

To Allah for giving me the strength

and the courage to keep going …

Alpha Ousmane Bah

To my family my mother Aissatou
Diallo, and my father Alpha Ibrahima
Bah for making the person who I am
today. I hope I have made you proud

To two special people that I consider

my brothers: Mohamed Kaba
and Mamadou Lamarana Diallo for
keeping me in check when I was about
to drift away, for supporting me
morally through this struggle …
To my adviser Dean Mendoza for
listening and guiding me through this
process;

To my fellow GS students for time and

time again proving that no matter the
walks of life, the challenges of the past,
present and future, anything is possible
for wherever there is life, there will be
hope!

Alpha Ousmane Bah

Welcome
Class of 1956
I would like to thank my family and friends
for all their help while I worked towards this
day.  Most of all, I want to thank Jide Kassim,
who helped me through each stage, who
proofread my application essay, who read all
my papers for my classes, who helped me
apply to law school, and who wiped away all
my tears when I didn't think I would make it
and encouraged me to continue.  Thank you,
my  love, for helping me to achieve my
moment!

Marquita Denise Acron

Dear Butler:

We will miss
you terribly!

Dear Columbia,
Thank you for all the wonderful things you
have taught us: -how to live without sleep
-how to live without food - how to camp
out in a library -how to smuggle food into a
library -and lastly, how to reduce our social
life to ... social life, what was that again?
Still, we love you :)

Yours,
  Kristiina Wells and Katrin

To my mother, Sharon A. Winter-Schorr:
Without you, none of my accomplishments
would mean anything at all. Your work and life
have been inspiration to me, and being loved by
you has inspired me to do things I did not think
were possible. You were the first person to have
complete faith in me, and that faith will always
sustain me. The past four years have been
intense, and I could not have survived a day at
Columbia without your care and support…

 Tiara Winter-Schorr
Aside from being my mom, you also my
best friend….I can't begin to imagine
how devoid of love and fun and magic
my life would have been without you.
Most of all, thank you giving me faith in
God and in myself, and thank you for
teaching me to love hard work and
education. Your love is incomparable ...

To Dr. Jill Shapiro: I could not have
asked for more as a professor or a
friend. Your excellence as a teacher is
unsurpassed. I admire your dedication
to your work and your love for your
students .... That dedication and love
spurred me to work harder than I ever
have. You were instrumental in making
me feel that Columbia is a challenging
but endlessly supportive
environment….
You helped me grow as a student, and
over the years you have become a
cherished friend. I cannot overstate
your influence on me or how much
studying with you has meant to me.
Thank you for your faith in me. It has
helped me to have faith in myself.

 Tiara Winter-Schorr
All my gratitude, at every moment
to god: for the complexities of life,
access to the faith that unravels them
and the Sufi path.

To my atheist father, best friend and

gin gin: I love you. I live and survive
only because of you.

Lakshmi Gopal

To my acchaccha, kunji, my family and
the rest of my fellow ‘Samurai’:
everything I do, I do for you with your
values in my mind and your love in my
heart.

Lakshmi Gopal
To the greatest teachers and mentors any life
