Prepositional Phrase

Prepositional phrase is a group of words that begins with a


preposition and ends with its object. Words that modify the
Object is part of the sentence.

• Several words that are used as prepositions are also used as adverbs
e.g.
1. Please stand by. 2. We’ve met before today.
• Please stand by the window • We’ve met before.

If you are not sure whether a word is as adverb or a preposition, look at how it is
used. If it is at the of a sentence is probably an adverb. If it is followed with other
words is probably a preposition.

sentence. A time phrase at the beginning of a sentence is often
followed by a comma (,).
