FUTURE STEPS TO BE

FOLLOWED TO FIGHT
PANDEMIC DISEASES
NAME: SANIKA KULKARNI
COURSE: FYBPHARM
INTRODUCTION

• A pandemic is when a disease affects the global population. Pandemics are usually caused by new infectious agents
(bacteria or viruses) that spread quickly.
• A pandemic is a type of epidemic, however a pandemic involves the number of people and the geographical area
that the disease affects.
• Experts suggest that the prevalence of pandemics has gone up as a result of increased global travel and
urbanization.
• Throughout the human history there have been a number of pandemic disease.
• The most fatal pandemic in recorded history was the Black Death (also known as Plague), which killed an estimated
75–200 million people in the 14th century.
• Corona virus (covid-19) is the most recent which was first reported in December 2019 in China.
CAUSES

• All pandemics start as localized disease outbreaks that then begin spreading rapidly, and
eventually around the world.
• the likelihood of pandemics has gone up due to increased global travel and urbanization.
• As people live in more densely populated areas and are able to more easily travel around
the world, disease can spread much more quickly.
• In the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers in Wuhan, China started
reporting something strange to the WHO office in China in late 2019.
EFFECTS

• Pandemics can cause significant, widespread increases in morbidity and mortality and
have disproportionately higher mortality impacts on LMICs.
• Pandemics can cause economic damage through multiple channels, including short-term
fiscal shocks and longer-term negative shocks to economic growth.
• Individual behavioral changes, such as fear-induced aversion to workplaces and other
public gathering places, are a primary cause of negative shocks to economic growth during
pandemics.
• Some pandemic mitigation measures can cause significant social and economic disruption.
PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN

• Maintain a clean and healthy hygiene.

Sanitize your workplace, house and other surroundings.
• Avoid getting stranded in overly crowded areas.
• Carry sanitizers, wipes and mask.
• Getting tested or seeing a doctor when illness or any symptons of the disease are felt.
PREPARATION FOR A POSSIBLE PANDEMIC

• Invest in research and preparation.

• Fund and continue to implement vaccine programs.
• Planning and coordination. One important aspect is to integrate pandemic preparedness into
national emergency preparedness frameworks.
• Reducing the spread of disease will depend significantly upon increasing the “social distance”
between people.
• Measures such as individual/household level measures, societal-level measures and international
travel measures, and the use of antivirals, other pharmaceuticals, and vaccines will be important.
INDIVIDUAL/HOUSEHOLD MEASURES

• Promote hand and respiratory hygiene

• Develop infection control guidance for household settings.
• Develop plans to provide necessary support for ill persons isolated at home and their
household contacts.
SOCIAL LEVEL MEASURES

• Establish protocols to suspend classes, especially in the event of a severe pandemic or if

there is disproportionate or severe
• Promote development of mitigation strategies for public and private sector workplaces
(such as adjusting working patterns and practices).
• Promote reduction of unnecessary travel and overcrowding of mass transport systems.
• Develop a framework to facilitate decision-making for cancellation/restriction of mass
gatherings at the time of the pandemic.
CONCLUSION

Hence we conclude pandemic disease can be very harmful for the entire word. We’ve went
through its harmful and devastating impacts. Such diseases are unpredictable and can occur
at any point of time. Thus its alarmingly necessary for us to take follow the required steps
for preventing and fight any kind of pandemic diseases
