Who is Leo Higuita?
Leonardo de Melo Vieira Leite (born 6 June 1986), commonly
known as Leo Higuita, is a Brazilian born Kazakh futsal player who
plays as a goalkeeper for AFC Kairat and the 
Kazakhstan national futsal team. The best goalkeeper in the world
2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020 according to the Futsalplanet Awards.

He started playing at the age of five, imitating his goalkeeper father.

He played for the futsal teams of the football clubs Vasco da Gama,
Flamengo, Fluminense from Rio de Janeiro. In big football, tall
goalkeepers are preferred, so Leonardo switched to futsal. He
received the nickname Higuita, because he loves to play, going
outside the penalty area, like his famous Colombian colleague Rene
Higuita.

Since 2011 - a player at Kairat. Since 2013 he has been playing for
the national team of Kazakhstan.

Higuita is a man who radically changed the goalkeeper's
game in world futsal practice. When his team is in
possession of the ball, the goalkeeper goes far into the
pitch and becomes an outfield player. It turns out a
numerical advantage in attack - a game of five against
four. At the same time, Higuita has a powerful, well-
delivered shot and often scores goals from the field.

In addition to being recognized as the best goalkeeper in

the world five times, he won two UEFA Cups, four
Eremenko Cups and many national titles with Kairat,
and twice entered the top four teams of the European
Championship with Kazakhstan.

He has a wife and daughter who loves him. His daughter

goes to school and already speaks good Kazakh and
Russian.
 Why I admire Leo Higuita
I admire him because of his good behavior in and out the
pitch. When ever he losses he gets up and fight for victory. I
admire him because of his loyalty to his team. I admire him
because he helps his teammates to get better.
In my opinion, his talent, courage and strong-willed
character are worth admiring. Higuita is a man who deserves
respect. He moved to another country to make his dream
come true. He is the best goalkeeper in the world despite his
age.
What is more important is that I respect his outlook on life.

It is always very interesting to watch how Higuita plays. There is a clear strategy in his actions.
He became not only a talented goalkeeper, he became the best of the best.
The fact that a person is able to set world sports records so easily and bring victory to his team is
admirable.
I take pride in watching my favorite goalkeeper play, realizing that Higuita does it as well as no one else
has done for a long time before and probably will not do it after. Therefore, he is, without a doubt, one of
the best players of our time and the goalkeeper of all time.
