“The Cask of Amontillado”
• “The Cask of Amontillado” is one of Poe’s most
famous short stories, and it was originally
published in 1846 in Godey’s Lady Book, the
most popular periodical in the United States at
that time.
• The Cask of Amontillado'' is a great example of the
Dark Romantic genre, which features stories of the
grotesque or situations of judgment and punishment.

 MAJOR
EVENT
1.Montresor and fortunate was meet in the carnival then
Montresor took entice Fortunato about the pipe of what
passes for amontillado.
2.Montresor told Fortunato that he is going to find luchresi to ask
him assistance; But Fortunato stop Montresor from leaving and
Fortunato start to offers himself to help Montresor.
 3.However Montresor reject him because he think that
Fortunato has a cold, But Fortunato keep on insisting and
said that the cold was nothing.

4.Then Motresor leads Fortunato to the place where he put the pipe of
what passes for amontillado untill they reached the underground place
were all the dead of the Montresor family is resting and also the place
where they kept their finest wine.
 5.As they follow the path towards the place where
the amontillado is then suddenly Fortunato stop and
start coughing, for more veneer Montresor ask how
long does Fortunato has been coughing, but
Fortunato said that his cough was nothing.
6.When Fortunato coughing non-stop, Montresor tell him
to go back because Fortunato was ill and he can't be
responsible for what may happen to him yet Fortunato
insist that it was nothing and the cough can't cause him
death.
7.Montresor agree and instead he offered Fortunato to drink
medoc so that it will help them from cold.
8.As they continue walking they arrive the vault or a little room that is
about 3 ft. wide and 7 ft. high and 4 ft. deep.

9.Then Montresor said to Fortunato to go inside and he immediately

followed him until they reach the back wall.
10.Fortunato then stood for a moment because of the
shock and wondering why there are a heavy iron rings
on the wall and a chain hanging from them locked from
each other.
11.Before Fortunato comeback from his senses, Montresor
close the lock and chain him, after that Montresor called
fortunato and order him to put his hands against the wall
and ask again to return but he didn't answer.
12.Through the wine that Fortunato drink he became intoxicated and
he still looking for amontillado even he was chained by Montresor.
13.As Montresor speak he begun to search through the piled-up
bones and throw them to the side, he found stones that he took down
from the wall, Then Montresor start to make a wall that covers the
hole where Fortunato was chained.
14.And then Fortunato realized what Montresor doing and
he began to struggle with the shackles and started to beg
Montresor to go back because there are someone waiting
for them.
15.Before Montresor finished building the wall he called fortunato's
name and all he heard was the faint moan and cries for fear, then he
suddenly felt cold and quickly finish his doing and he return the
bones as if nothing happen.
