1 THESSALONIANS 3:6-13
Introduction
■ (6) But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has
brought us the good news of your faith and love and reported
that you always remember us kindly and long to see us, as we
long to see you – (7) for this reason, brothers, in all our distress
and affliction we have been comforted about you through your
faith.
■ (1 Thessalonians 3)
1. By Being Faithful
■ (8) For now we live, if you are standing fast in the Lord.
■ (3) that no one be moved by these afflictions… (5) For this
reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to learn about
your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you
and our labor would be in vain.
■ (1 Thess. 3:3, 5)
■ (7) For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those
who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh.
Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist. (8) Watch
yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for,
but may win a full reward.
■ (2 John)
■ (9) Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the
teaching of Christ does not have God. Whoever abides in the
teaching has both the Father and the Son.
■ (2 John)
■ (1:6) I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him
who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a
different gospel . . . (3:1) O foolish Galatians, who has
bewitched you? . . . (4:11) I am afraid I may have labored over
you in vain . . . (5:4) You are severed from Christ, you who
would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from
grace.”
■ (Galatians)
■ If we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he
also will deny us.
■ (2 Timothy 2:12)
2. By Being Present
■ (9) For what thanksgiving can we return to God for you, for all
the joy that we feel for your sake before our God, (10) as we
pray most earnestly night and day that we may see you face to
face and supply what is lacking in your faith?
■ (1 Thessalonians 3)
■ (10) always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will
I may now at last succeed in coming to you. (11) For I long to
see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to
strengthen you – (12) that is, that we may be mutually
encouraged by each other‘s faith, both yours and mine.
■ (Romans 1)
3. By Being Loving
■ (11) Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord
Jesus, direct our way to you, (12) and may the Lord make you
increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we
do for you.
■ (1 Thessalonians 3)
■ (7) Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and
whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. (8)
Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is
love.
■ (1 John 4)
■ (14) For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love
your neighbor as yourself.” (15) But if you bite and devour one
another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.
■ (Galatians 5)
4. By Being Holy
■ Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping
watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an
account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for
that would be of no advantage you.
■ (Hebrews 13:17)
