Trunnion Mounted Ball Valve Sub Sea valves are available in Side Entry, Top
Entry and Fully Welded design .
For Deep and Ultra-deep Top Entry and/or Fully Welded are normally required,
but there are exceptions to this rule.
Valve for sub-sea installation shall have an higher reliability and virtually “no
maintenance” requirements throughout the “life cycle” of the investment.
For this purpose sub-sea valves normally have the following features:
• Metal to metal sealed
• Either CRA weld overlays on all sealing areas or fully cladded or solid CRA
• Special seals (metallic and/or polymeric and/or a combination of the two)
• Reduced number of potential leak paths 2-1/16’’ API 10K
• Special Factory Acceptance Testing including “brand new valve” signature API 17D
• Simulated water depth testing of valve and actuator Hyperbaric Tested
• Special operator and operator’s connectors diver friendly or ROV ISO13628 at 1500 mt of
• Special fittings (vent/drain/emergency sealant injectors) where required simulated water depth
• Special corrosion protections coatings
• Special Marking

In addition, most of the end users have their own independent sub-sea qualification
requirements, involving:
• Design Verification / Appraisal (Design Review, Calculations/FEA , etc.)
• Type Approval Testing of Pilot Valves
• Performance Verification (no external leak and internal leak measurement)
• Cycling Test (simulating the complete lifetime of the valve)
• Sub-Sea Simulation Qualification Test (at maximum water depth)
Each production lot shall normally be certified as compliant with the approved design and
shall be production tested to prove its performance and reliability. This normally involves:
• Enhanced Factory Acceptance Testing
• Sub-Sea Simulation Production Test (at specified working water depth)
• “Brand New Valve Signature” to certify performance figures and their trend after a
number of operations.

BODY DESIGN
Truflo Italy Side Entry and Top Entry ball valves are of the
bolted construction design. Fully welded ball valves are of the
welded construction with full penetration welds.

Side loads generated by the pressure acting on seats and ball are transmitted to the body through the bearing
supports (for Side Entry and All Welded design) and through the cover (for Top Entry design).

SEAT SEALING DESIGN
Each valve has two independently floating and spring
loaded seats that are always in contact with the ball
during valve operation. With this design we are able to
provide a bubble-tight seal even at very low differential
pressures.

DESIGN FEATURES
To protect the pressure containing components from
overpressure of the fluid trapped into the body cavity we
offer Self Relieving Seats - SRS. This seat design is also
known as Single Piston Effect - SPE.

We can offer a combination of SRS Up-Stream and DPE
Down-Stream.

BODY JOINTS
Each body joint is provided with three seals.
The primary seal, designed to contain the fluid into the valve, can be either an
O-ring or a spring energised lip seal depending on the service conditions
and/or customer preference.
The secondary seal, design to contain the fluid in case of damage of the
primary seal can either be an O-ring or a spring energised lip seal depending
on the service conditions and/or customer preference.
The tertiary seal, mainly designed to avoid seawater ingress into the valve,
would typically be an O-ring or a metallic seal.

DESIGN FEATURES
BODY CONNECTION
The following body connections are typically available on Trunnion mounted valves:
Body cavity vent and drain connections are normally required for valve seat testing and to allow full drainage after
hydrostatic testing. They are normally not required during valve operation.
Emergency sealant Injectors are normally required to eliminate or at least reduce either seat or stem leakage.
The following table summarize the typical requirement for such connections, as a function of the water depth.

DESIGN FEATURES
VALVE HANDLING
To ease valve handling operation all valves can be equipped with either or both support feet and lifting lugs.
Both are designed to lift/support the weight of the valve complete with its operating mechanism in the installation position.
VALVE OPERATORS
Each of the operating mechanism can be extended to the boundary of the template to ease the operation by ROV / Diver.
In this case the valve position indicator shall also be positioned on the boundary of the template, close to the ROV
receptacle, to ease the reading of the valve position indicator.
Marking of the ROV receptacles and valve position indicators shall be agreed case by case.
