RESIL MOJARES
-considers Isabelo de los Reyes as one of the “Brains of the Nation”
In other work, entitled Apuntes para un
ensayo de teodica filipina: la religion del
Katipunan (Notes in Order to Familiarize
Myself with Philippine Theodicy, 1899), de
los Reyes expounds on the origin of the
Katipunan as he also discusses the
foundations of early religion of the natives .
Lifted from the work, de los Reyes narrates that:

“However, in as much as the Filipino people were

still very young, its heart was still virgin and its
mind was still pure and healthy, without these
sophisms which are used to artfully conceal
teachings, which are intended to exploit and take
advantage of those who easily, believe them. On
the other hand, the ancient Filipino religion was
also purer and more rational than those religions,
which today claim to be true and philosophically
correct, such as certain mysticisms of Christianity
and Brahmanism”
