This is a communication techniques that requires the listener to
understand, interpret and evaluate what she or he hears. Listening
effectively improves personal relationships throughout the reduction
of conflict and strengthen cooperations through a collective
understanding while speaking is vocalization of human
communication.
Listening is the important skill in communication. Without listening,
communication will be crippled. It is vital and should be a main part
of communication.
what are listening competencies?
• Listening is the process of receiving, constructing meaning
from, and responding to spoken and or nonverbal
messages. People listen in order to comprehend
information, critique and evauate a message, show
empathy for the feelings expressed by others.
• In order to be a COMPETENT LISTENER, a person must be
able to listen with literal comprehension. Specifically, the
competent listener should be able to exhibit the following
competencies by demonstrating the abilities included
under each statement.
• YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT
TYPES OF LISTENING:
Listening for gist
Listening for specific information
Listening for detailed understanding
SPEAKING
• Speaking is the delivery of language through the mouth. To
speak, we create sounds using many parts of our body,
including the lungs, vocal tract, vocal chords, tongue, teeth and
lips.
• This vocalized form of language usually requires at least one
listener. When two or more peopl speak or talk to each other,
the conversation is called a “dialogue”
what is speaking competencies?
• Speaking is the process of transmitting ideas and
information orally in a variety of situations. Effective
oral communication involves generating messages abd
delivering them with attention to vocal variety,
articulation, and nonverbal signals.
• In order to be a COMPETENT SPEAKER, a person must
be able to compose a message and provide ideas and
information suitable to the topic, purpose, and
audience.
