Reciprocal Innervation
“When a muscle contracts, its direct
antagonist relaxes to an equal extent allowing
smooth movement.”

This law applies to monocular phenomenon


only.

2. Hering’s Law of Equal


Innervation
“It is an equal and simultaneous innervation
that flows from the brain to a pair of yoke
muscles which contracts simultaneously.”

This law applies to binocular phenomenon.


Yoke Muscles

Also known as “contralateral synergists”.


These are contralaterally paired muscles that
work synergistically to direct the gaze in a given
direction.
Ipsilateral Synergist

These are called “helping muscles”.
