PROPELLER HUB

• The center portion of a propeller to which the blades are attached

and by which the propeller is attached to the engine.
• Propeller shafts may be of three major types: tapered,
splined, or flanged.
• Tapered shafts are identified by taper numbers. ... It is
threaded on one end for a propeller hub nut. The
thrust bearing, which absorbs propeller thrust, is
located around the shaft and transmits the thrust to
the nose section housing.

Flanged propeller shafts are
used on most modern
reciprocating and turboprop
engines. One end of the shaft
is flanged with drilled holes to
accept the propeller
mounting bolts.
PROPELLER SPINNERS
All modern propeller-driven aircraft have
spinners over their propeller hubs. These
spinners have the dual aerodynamic function of
streamlining the engine installation and
directing cool air into the openings in the
cowling.
It is an aircraft component, a streamlined fairing
fitted over a propeller hub or at the centre of a
turbofan engine. Spinners both make the aircraft
overall more streamlined, reducing aerodynamic
drag and also smooth the airflow so that it enters
the air intakes more efficiently.
The spinner bulkhead is
installed on the propeller
shaft flange and held in
place by attaching bolts.
