Why might some people regard

science as the supreme form of all

knowledge?
Introduction
People regard science as the supreme form of knowledge,
because science is based completely on facts. People tend to
see science as true, justified, reliable, precise and objective.
Besides that it provides various evidence that convinces us that
the claim made by science is true. It does this through a
complicated system of experimentation involving making
hypotheses, observations, conclusions etc.
Also, it needs to be considered that scientific theories remain
consistent and if they are not consistently true throughout time
then modifications in our theories are made.
Claims
1. All the claim made by science are definite facts
1. For example, the sun is hot. This is a universal fact which can be proven plus there are no
counterclaims.
2. Justification
1. When a hypothesis is made, a justification should be made to prove it so that it is accepted as
a fact. For example, Newton used maths way ahead of his time to prove the hypothesis of
gravity
3. Consistency: Theories that are proven will stay true even 10 years down the line and if there are
any changes that need to be made, the scientific community makes corrections.
1. The change in the atomic model various times
2. Vaccines that were invented and shown to work years ago still work today and there has been
empirical data to prove it
4. It is interlinked with other systems of knowledge. (Within natural sciences we see studies that look
at other systems of knowledge too. We see biology and psychology being very interlinked when
they try to measure the correlation between hormones and chemicals released by our brain and
body when we have been exposed to certain psychological stimuli.)
5. The scientific community has existed for decades and is very large which allows for new knowledge
to be created and discovered every year by large amounts of people.
General examples
1.Isaac Newton :- Made a theory regarding the discovery of Gravity. He published a
detailed theory on gravity and used mathematics ahead of his time to prove that this
theory applied to all objects. All this was based on the observation he made when a apple
fell from a tree. This theory will remain true consistently because he proved through
various experiments that objects falling towards the center of the earth will always fall at
9.8 m/s2. Hence, he has provided evidence, consistency and made theories along with it
to elaborate on his findings.
2.Gay Lussac’s law which was discovered in 1802 is still consistent as of today. He
provided a valid justification using a system of experimentation which was accomplished
with the help of an apparatus. And after this justification his law became a fact widely
used in today’sworld.
3.Ohm’s Law which was published in 1826 has been consistent as of date. It has been
justified through the process of experimentation with the help of an apparatus due to
which it has become a widely regarded fact.
