LECTURE, 2ND SHIFT POLYTECHNIC, SVEC
PRESENTING TOPICS ARE:-
1. What is Transformers?
2. Types of Transformers?
3. What is Conductor?
4. Definition of Lightining Arrestor?
5. About Transmission Lines?
6. About Distribution Lines?
WHAT IS TRANSFORMER?

• A Transformer is a Static device which transfers the electrical energy from

high level to low level without changing any frequency.
• It works on the principle of Faraday’s laws of electro magnetic induction.
• It is used for both sending and receiving the electricity.
TYPES OF TRANSFORMERS:-

Transformers are classified into two types:-

1. Step-up Transformer.
2. Step-down Transformer.
STEP-UP TRANSFORMER

• A step up transformer is a transformer that step ups the voltage

from the primary winding to the secondary winding while keeping
the power same in both the windings at the rated frequency.
• The step up transformers are generally used in generating stations
and other power transmission applications.
STEP-UP TRANSFORMER
STEP-DOWN TRANSFORMER
• step down transformer is one whose secondary voltage is less
than its primary voltage.
.
• It is designed to reduce the voltage from the primary winding
to the secondary winding.
• This kind of transformer “steps down” the voltage applied to
it.
WHAT IS CONDUCTOR?
• In physics and electrical engineering, a conductor is an object or
type of material that allows the flow of charge (electric current)
in one or more directions.
• Materials made of Metal are common electrical conductors.
• A conductor is a material which contains movable electric
charges.

DEFINITION OF LIGHTINING ARRESTOR?
• lightining arrester (alternative spelling lightining arrestor) (also called
lightining Isolator) is a device used on electric power transmission and
telecommunication systems to protect the insulation and conductors of the
system from the damaging effects of lightining.
• The typical lightining arrester has a high-voltage terminal and a ground
terminal.
• Lightining arresters are used to protect Electric fences.

TRANSMISSION LINES
• Transmission lines are a high voltage line that carries
electricity from power plant to the substation from it is
further distributed to various areas for different purposes.
• Transmission lines are thick lines.
• They conduct current at 69 kV or more.
TRANSMISSION LINES
DISTRIBUTION LINE
• Distribution lines are low voltage lines that carry electricity
from the substations to the end users for residential and
commercial use.
• Distribution line are thin as compared to the transmission line.
• They conduct less than 69 kV.
