The Great Commission

• 1 Peter 2:9 (New King James Version)
• But you are a chosen generation, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, His own special
people, that you may proclaim the praises of
Him who called you out of darkness into His
marvelous light;
• ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and
how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought
you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will
indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant,
then you shall be a special treasure to Me
above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And
you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a
holy nation.’ These are the words which you
shall speak to the children of Israel.” Ex.19:4-6
• There is no greater honor than the call to this
ministry.
• This is not reserved for a handful of
‘professionals’, but for EVERYONE.
• But YOU…
• What you have been called to:
– 1. Chosen Generation—God did not call Israel because
they were greater than other nations, it was simply His
choice.
– “The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose
you, because ye were more in number than any people;
for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the
LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath
which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD
brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed
you” Deut.7:7-8
• He chose us we did not choose Him(Jn.15:16)
• This is His love and grace

– 2. Royal Priesthood. God’s idea from the

beginning was that Israel influence the nations for
God. To stand before Him and influence the world
– They imitated the customs and practices of the
godless nations instead of being the godly
influence
• Every believer has the right and privilege to go
to God and offer spiritual sacrifices like prayer,
intercession, worship and the Word, in behalf
of the world!
• Paul declared we are “ambassadors for Christ”
2 Cor.5:20
• Highest honor bestowed on someone was to
represent king’s wishes to a foreign power
– 3. Holy Nation—we belong EXCLUSIVELY to God
– Our citizenship is in heaven, we walk to HIGHER
standard than the world. We seek to please a
higher Authority. This is for INFLUENCE.
SEPERATED not ISOLATED. Contact without
contamination. We are special and distinct and are
not to allow those differences to be broken down
– 4.God’s special treasure. Our salvation made us
God’s possession. We once belonged to the world
and walked according to the prince of this world.
But we have been bought with a price, the
precious blood. You can always tell the value of a
thing by the price paid for it.
• All these privileges carry one BIG responsibility:
• REVEALING THE PRAISES OF GOD TO A LOST
WORLD!
• “show forth” means to advertise, to tell out,
every believer is a walking advertisement for
Christ.
• The world is in the dark—don’t curse the
darkness, turn a light on.
• But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high
calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God's
instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell
others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—
from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.
Friends, this world is not your home, so don't make
yourselves cozy in it. Don't indulge your ego at the
expense of your soul. Live an exemplary life among the
natives so that your actions will refute their prejudices.
Then they'll be won over to God's side and be there to
join in the celebration when he arrives.
