CDMA2000 NE Introduction
 MS: mobile station, composed of UIM and phone.
 BTS: the BTS is used to transmit and receive radio signals and to implement
the communication between the mobile network and the MS.
 BSC: controlling and managing the BTSs, CDMA2000 1X radio-packet (R-P) conne
ction management, Setting up and releasing call connections.
 MSC: support telecom service, supplement service, network function such as l
ocation registration, handoff and roaming.
 VLR: the VLR is a dynamic database. It stores the information of the subscri
bers currently in its MSC area.
 HLR: the HLR is a database for mobile subscriber management. It stores the s
ubscription information, subscriber states, MS location information, MDN, an
d IMSI (MIN).
 PDSN: the PDSN is a gateway used to connect the mobile network and the IP ba
ckbone network. It provides the access of packet data service for mobile sub
scribers.

CDMA2000 NE Introduction
 MSCe: when A interface is IP transmission, the MSCe is responsible for call
setup, route selection, radio resource allocation, mobility management and s
o on.
 MGW: when A interface is IP transmission, the MGW provides the voice encodin
g and decoding function and processes voice services.
 ANAAA: in EV-DO system, the AN AAA manages the Um interface and implements a
uthentication and authorization for the access network.
 AAA: is a high-performance remote verification server for dial-up subscriber
s. It provides authentication, authorization, accounting, and data value-add
ed services. It also supports powerful agent functions, various types of dat
abases, and flexible operations.
 HA: provides the interface between the mobile network and the Internet. The
HA is an auxiliary node for mobile IP subscribers to access the Internet.
Notice: we can not configure A interface with TDM and IP at the same time. Nam
ely the BSC must connect MSC or MSCe+MGW.

CDMA Interface Introduction
 A1 interface: the A1 interface is a signaling interface between the BSC a
nd the MSC.
 A2 interface: the A2 interface carries subscriber traffic between the MSC
and the BSC.
 A1p interface: the A1p interface is a signaling interface between the BSC
and the MSCe(Mobile Switching Center Emulation)
 A2p interface: the A2p interface carries the subscriber traffic between t
he BSC and the MGW (Media Gateway).
 A3 interface: the A3 interface carries the signaling messages and subscri
ber traffic (including the voice and data traffic) between the BSC and th
e Selection/Distribution Unit (SDU).
 A7 interface: the A7 interface carries the signaling between the source B
SC and the target BSC to support the inter-BSC soft handoff.

 Resemblance: the hardware of BSC and RAC are nearly same, the hardware of RAU
and BTS are absolutely same.
 Contrast:

 RAC is often used for local access, without core network, there are some special board
whose the function like core network, such as CEUB and CRSU.
 There is no user data management unit in BSC, but RAC have a user management unit(CEUB
and CRSU).

 V5 interface: it is used for carrying calling control signaling and subscribe

r traffic.

BSC Software Version Introduction
 Now, there are several versions for BSC, the more new function and characteristic will be
generated in new version.

Version Hardware and new function

V200R001 It is the mainstream version before 2006, supporting CDMA 1XEVDO service.
V200R002 It is the mainstream version for current BSC6600, supporting IP transmission i
n A and Abis interface; using EPU instead of GPU.
V200R003 Because of PDU board, there can be no CPMS rack in system.
V200R006 The other name of V2R3C04.
V300R001 The platform has been changed to PARC, the 6680 system is used in PARC which t
he board and subrack have been re-design.
V300R006 Change the BAM OS from Win2000 to Win2003; OMU board is instead of BAM.

Attention:
1 . The particular application of each version are in Support, support.huawei.com -document-version release docume
nt<xx release notes> or version document in software-version software.
2 . GPU and EPU are physical board, GPU is General Processing Unit, EPU is Enhanced Processing Unit, the process p
erformance of EPU is better than GPU.

Baseband Subsystem

The baseband subsystem includes BCKM, BCIM, CCPM, CECM and so on, the main function
as follow:
 Supplying physical interface in Abis interface, and completing interface protocol process;

 Supplying interface to RF subsystem, completing protocol process of Um interface physical

layer and common channel MAC layer;
 Completing modulation and demodulation of CDMA 1X and 1XEV-DO baseband data,
coding and decoding of CDMA channel;
 Providing a sync clock for BTS system;

 Completing BTS system resource management , operation and maintenance and

environment monitor;

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. All rights reserved Page 30

RF Subsystem

RF subsystem includes CTRM/CMTR, CHPA/CMPA, CDDU or DFU and so on, the main
function as follow:
 In the forward link, it performs power adjustable up-conversion and power amplification
on the modulated transmission signals and filters the transmission signals to meet the
corresponding air interface criteria.
 In the reverse link, it filters the signals received by the BTS antenna to suppress out-band
interference, and then performs low-noise amplification, division, noise factor adjustable
frequency down-conversion, and channel selective filtering.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. All rights reserved Page 31

Antenna Subsystem

The BTS antenna subsystem consists of two parts:

 RF antenna
It transmits the modulated RF signals and receives mobile station (MS) signals.
 Satellite synchronization antenna
It provides precise synchronization clock for the CDMA system.

Power Supply Subsystem

 When power input is -48V, power supply subsystem includes PSU, power distribution,
lighting protection and monitor unit, power module is a DC/DC power which have -
48V DC input, and +24V DC output.
 When power input is +24V, power supply subsystem don’t need PSU. We can
configure assistant power rack that change ~220V to +24V, to support AC power input.
 Power supply subsystem have the characteristic of hot backup, concentrated
management, separated power supply and so on, improve the security and reliability of
power supply subsystem.
