A list of Physics Laboratory Equipment

✘ Resistor.
✘ Multi meter.
✘ Voltmeter.
✘ Ammeter.
✘ Galvanometer.
✘ Battery Eliminator.
✘ Potentiometer.
✘ Meter Bridge.

✘ RESISTOR

Resistor, electrical component that opposes the flow of either direct

or alternating current, employed to protect, operate, or control the circuit.
Voltages can be divided with the use of resistors, and in combination with
other components resistors can be used to make electrical waves into shapes
most suited for the electrical designer’s requirements. Resistors can have a
fixed value of resistance, or they can be made variable or adjustable within a
certain range, in which case they may be called rheostats, or potentiometers.

✘ MULTI METER

A multimeter, also known as a volt-ohm meter, is

a handheld tester used to measure electrical
voltage, current (amperage), resistance, and other
values. Multimeters come in analog and digital
versions and are useful for everything from
simple tests, like measuring battery voltage, to
detecting faults and complex diagnostics. They
are one of the tools preferred by electricians for
troubleshooting electrical problems on motors,
appliances, circuits, power supplies, and wiring
systems.

✘ VOLTMETER

Voltmeter, instrument that measures voltages of

either direct or alternating electric current on a
scale usually graduated in volts, millivolts (0.001
volt), or kilovolts (1,000 volts). Many voltmeters
are digital, giving readings as numerical displays.
The instrument can also provide readings
in analogue form, by moving a pointer that
indicates voltage on a scale, but digital voltmeters
generally have a higher order of accuracy than
analogue instruments.

✘ AMMETER

Ammeter, instrument for measuring either

direct or alternating electric current, in
amperes. An ammeter can measure a wide
range of current values because at high values
only a small portion of the current is directed
through the meter mechanism; a shunt in
parallel with the meter carries the major
portion. ammeter, instrument for measuring
either direct or alternating electric current, in
amperes. An ammeter can measure a wide
range of current values because at high values
only a small portion of the current is directed
through the meter mechanism; a shunt in
parallel with the meter carries the major
portion.

✘ GALVANOMETER

Galvanometer, instrument for measuring a

small electrical current or a function of the
current by deflection of a moving coil. The
deflection is a mechanical rotation derived
from forces resulting from the current.

✘ BATTERY ELIMINATOR

A battery eliminator is a device that provides

an alternate source of power to a piece of
equipment normally powered by batteries.
Such devices can replace batteries for radios
and other portable appliances. Electronics
stores often carry them, along with accessories.
It may also be possible to build one for a
specific application, for people who are
comfortable working with circuits and
electrical components

✘ POTETTIOMETER

A potentiometer is defined as a 3
terminal variable resistor in which
the resistance is manually varied to control the
flow of electric current. A potentiometer acts as
an adjustable voltage divider.

A potentiometer is a passive electronic

component. Potentiometers work by varying
the position of a sliding contact across a
uniform resistance. In a potentiometer, the
entire input voltage is applied across the whole
length of the resistor, and the output voltage is
the voltage drop between the fixed and sliding
contact

✘ Meter bridge

Meter Bridge is an instrument that is used to find the unknown resistance of a

coil or any other material. This bridge works under the principle of Wheatstone
bridge. We know that the Wheatstone Bridge is used to measure the unknown
resistance connected in a circuit. It consists of four resistors of which two resistors
are known Resistors, one variable resistor and one unknown resistor along with a
galvanometer. Meter bridge acts as the variable resistance.
