Getting to know your friends ( Ice breaking )

• The children sit in a circle. Call a name and throw
the beanbag across the circle
. One child has the beanbag and calls hello to a child
across the circle, then throws the beanbag to them.
This child calls to a different person and throws the
beanbag and so on until all have had a turn.
Remind the children to call the name before they
throw and to throw sensibly to avoid accidents.

3. Mathematical Greeting
This activity emphasises on mathematics .Every child in the circle
think of a number they like. The children send a handshake around
the circle and say Good morning followed by the number they have
thought of earlier. e.g. A and B shake hands and A says, Good
‘morning I’m no. 2 ’ and B says ‘Good morning number 2 . I am
number 6 then B and C shake hands and B says, ‘Good morning I am
number 6’ and C answers ‘Good morning 6. Iam number 3’. Etc

Note: For more advanced students A can say Good morning I am 1

plus 3 (can be any two numbers) The next person (B) will reply Good
morning number 4 (1+3=4) Then B will greet C Good morning I am 2 +
1. C will answer Good morning number 3 etc.
4. Bug In The Rug Game

During this circle time "who's missing" game, youngsters use
observation and memory skills.
• Materials: A Large sheet or blanket.
• Description: Teachers lay a large sheet on the floor.  The
group of children sit around it.  One child steps away from the
group and closes his / her eyes.  The teacher taps a child and
he / she gets under the "rug".  The child that was away from
the group with their eyes closed comes back.  Now the rest of
the children chant:
“Bug in the rug,  Bug in the rug.
Who's that bug in the rug?”
• The child has to guess who is under the rug by looking around
to see who is missing.  The child under the rug is then
revealed.
