Many people are concerned about ecology today because it is of vital importance
for humanity. Everybody is talking about pollution nowadays; land pollution,
water pollution, air pollution. The things we eat, the places we live in and the air
around us are made dirty and unhealthy by machines and factories. Pollution is the
result of industrialization and it threatens everything living: plants, animals,
people. It is dangerous for life. Global problems are those which affect not only
one individual but the whole mankind. They can’t be solved in one day and
require organized efforts from the world community. If people leave these
problems unsettled, it may lead to serious consequences in the future. It will affect
all humanity and environment. All in all, global problems are the following:
environmental pollution, climate change, resource issues, overpopulation, nuclear
weapons and some others. Speaking about pollution, I’d like to mention the
Chernobyl disaster, which was the result of reckless economic activities. At the
moment, many forests and rivers are also endangered due to careless attitude. In
the 21st century our world faces one of the most urgent problems – the climate
change. The earth is warming up. As a result some species and their habitats
suffer. Recent years have shown increasing temperatures in some regions and
extreme weather conditions, including hurricanes, earthquakes, and tsunamis.

Everybody is talking about pollution:
land pollution, water pollution, air pollution.
The things we eat, the place we live in, the air
around us are made dirty and unhealthy by
machines and factories.
Pollution is dangerous for life.
The water of the Aral Sea is polluted and
it became much less than some years ago.
The salt which lies on the depth of a sea
brings harm to people’s health.
I want to speak about problem with the Caspian Sea.
The Caspian Sea becomes smaller too.
The water of the Caspian Sea was polluted by oil.
Fish was dying in the sea and some species were
disappearing.
The nuclear tragedy of Kazakhstan. The Semipalatinsk
testing area was founded on 21-st of August 1947. If to speak
about victims of those nuclear tests, the number of cases
of oncology, leukemia, disorders of the central nervous system
among the population of that region became very frequent.
Now the nuclear weapon testing had stopped, but people
from Semey suffer from radioactivity.
There are a lot of petrol stations in our region.
We know that petrol will bring much profit to the
owners, but it fumes and pollutes air.
The next ecological problem is litter. A lot of litter
is produced every year. Percent is burnt, percent is put in
landfills and the other litter is thrown in the countryside
on the ground away, because there aren’t litterbins on the
streets. Litter brings illness, it spoils the view of the
country.
