Podcasting as a whole class

activity
John Sutton
ICT Consultant working at
Chorlton Park Primary School
1. Focus on skills
• Software skills
– How to record, edit, etc... (Hint, pre-record a short piece with
obvious coughs, pauses etc)

• Questioning skills
– Open and closed questions (Each group record one or two examples
and post on blog for peer feedback)

• Script writing skills

– Displaying awareness of audience (Record examples for feedback – do
they work? Is there a difference between writing, and writing to be
read aloud)

• Presenting skills
– It’s not about the silly voice! (How do you make it sound like you are
not reading a script?)

Work on the above, recording in small groups, then loads of peer review
2. Integrated Task
• In small groups, produce a radio show
with 3 or 4 elements
– Introduction
– Interview
– News item
– Entertainment piece (poem, joke etc)
• Record, edit, publish and peer review
3. Class Podcast
• Use each radio group to produce a
discrete element of a class podcast
– Work independently
– Use the “Chapters” feature in Podium
– Set up a “recording station” for the group to
work at
– Assign a TA?
– Be realistic – don’t plan a weekly podcast!
