RECYCLING OF PAPER

Submitted by:- Guided by:-

(8th semester of
chemical engineering) Department of chemical
engineering, Raipur
institute of technology.
INTRODUCTION
 Paper is made up of cellulose fibers held
together by glue. The major sources are wood,
rags, cotton, grasses, sugar cane, straw, waste
paper or even elephant dung. In our country,
wood pulp is the most common source material
for the manufacturing of paper.
 It is possible to separate the fibers of paper
from each other and reuse them to make new
paper.
TYPES OF PAPER THAT CAN BE
RECYCLED
 Office white papers.
 Newspapers, magazines, telephone directories
and pamphlets.
 Cardboard.
 Colored papers.
 Computer print out papers.

GRADES RECYCLED INTO

Corrugated boxes New corrugated boxes

Newspapers & magazines Newspapers

Office papers, newspaper, magazines Bath tissue products, kitchen and

& print out papers industries paper toweling

Office paper, corrugated boxes, Soap cartons

UNACCEPTABLE PAPERS FOR
RECYCLING
UNSUITABLE FOR RECYCLING REASON
Cement bags & dog food bags Contamination from residues of the
content makes them unsuitable for
recycling
Plastic lined papers & foil lines papers The raw material & liners required to
waterproof these & similar products
are not recyclable
Photographic papers & wax coated Contamination from the glue & wax
papers makes them unsuitable for recycling

Food wrapping papers, paper towels, Contamination from general use

tissues makes them unsuitable for recycling

Carbon papers Contamination from the ink makes

them unsuitable for recycling

PROCEDURE
MERITS OF RECYCLING OF PAPER

 The Recycled Paper can be turned into new

paper so new trees don't have to be cut down,
thus decreasing wildlife.
DEMERITS OF RECYCLING OF PAPER

 The amount of time and chemicals needed to

reproduce the paper is lot.
 Greater impurities
 Finally the quality of the paper is rather low.
OTHER BENEFITS OF RECYCLING OF
PAPER
Energy saving in recycling of paper:
 Overall, recycling paper uses about 60% less

energy than making paper from new material

For every tonne of paper used for recycling the saving

are:
 At least 30000litres of water

 3000 - 4000 KWh electricity (enough for an average

3 bedroom house for one year)

 95% of air pollution.
CONCLUSION
Some studies show that rainforest, forest and
tree are in no way aided by the recycling
efforts, while others show that recycling is
saving trees all over the place.
