SHAKESPEARE ON

FILM
CHALLENGES OF SHAKESPEARE ON FILM

 Old English is difficult to get to grips with we aren't used to it

 A lot of it is catered to an audience 500 years ago so making it compatible with this generation
is difficult
 Shakespearian performances tended to use audience contact to get there a point to all that
heard but that’s not possible in a film.

To make it work sometimes Add things like in the Antigone They tend to focus on monologues
people change some of the we did gangs where mentioned so each character in the play
language, so the audience and there was guns in Romeo and completely understand the way
understands and the characters Juliet when they weren't even things went on.
no the terminology so it's easier made
for them to play that character
YOUNGER
AUDIENCE

Attention span very low must make it

interesting

SHAKESPEARE

 It is important to show Shakespeare work in modern English this is so children of today's

society can understand it
 Children should still read the original version as well this is because this shows how great
Shakespeare was at putting words together when there wasn’t many around.
 Other adaptations of Shakespeare's work are extremely important to keep for the future this is
because they show how much people love and enjoy his work and how he is the one writer we
will always remember
