IMPORTANCE OF

RENEWABLE
RESOURCES OF
ENERGY
INTRODUCTION
Due to industrializations and population
growth our economy and technologies today largely
depend upon natural resources

THE COAL DEPOSITS WILL DEPLETE WITHIN NEXT 200

TO 300 YEARS

petroleum deposits will deplete in next few decades

NON RENEWABLE RESOURCES ARE VERY
EXPENSIVE AND CAUSE A LOTS OF DAMAGE TO
THE ENVIRONMENT

THEY CAN EVEN LEAD TO ENVIRONMENTAL

DEGRADATION

WE CAN PREVENT THE ENVIRONMENT BY USING

RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY WHICH DO
NOT HARM THE ENVIRONMENT
WHAT ARE
RENEWABLE
SOURCES
OF ENERGY ?
Renewable energy is energy which
comes from natural resources such as
sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and
geothermal heat.
Renewable energies are inexhaustible,
clean and they can be used in a
decentralised way .Also, they have the
additional advantage of being
complimentary. These sources will
never replenish and can be used for
millions and millions of years
RENEWABLE
SOURCES
OF
ENERGY
SOLAR
ENERGY
Solar energy is the most readily
available source of energy. It
does not belong to anybody and
is, therefore, free. It is also the
most important of the non-
conventional sources of energy
because it is non-polluting and,
therefore, helps in lessening the
greenhouse effect.
Solar energy is the fuel for future
THESE DAYS WE EVEN USE
SOLAR APPLIANCES LIKE

SOLAR COOKERS
SOLAR LIGHTS
SOLAR GYZERS
HOW IS IT PRODUCED ?
The sunlight is absorbed into the
photovoltaic/solar cells. These
photovoltaic/solar cells are then used to
convert the sun's energy into electrical
energy. These cells are non-mechanical
devices that are made from silicon alloys.
Most of the solar collectors resemble
black, flat boxes that sit on building
rooftops
WIND
ENERGY
Wind energy is the kinetic energy associated with the
movement of atmospheric air. It has been used for hundreds of
years for sailing, grinding grain, and for irrigation. Wind energy
systems convert this kinetic energy to more useful forms of
power.
Wind energy systems for irrigation and milling have been in
use since ancient times and since the beginning of the 20th
century it is being used to generate electric power. Windmills
for water pumping have been installed in many countries
particularly in the rural areas.
TAMIL NADU IS THE HIGHEST PRODUCER OF WIND
ENERGY IN INDIA WHICH IS, 4115.8 MEGA WATTS

Wind energy may be the answer to the globe's question of

energy in the face of the rising petroleum and gas prices.
HYDRO
ELECTRICITY
Hydro electricity is another
term for power generated
by harnessing the power of
moving water. Not
necessarily falling water,
just moving water. There
are many famous such
generating stations in the
world, not the least of them
at Niagara Falls and Boulder
Dam.
it is cheaper than using other methods to convert
energy to electricity.

It is also a clean energy source, as it does not emit any

toxins.
BIOMASS
Biomass is the most important source for
energy productions supplied by agriculture.
This energy is also available in the form of
biodegradable waste, which is the rejected
component of available biomass
Biomass fuels stem from industrial processing,
such as forestry and wood products,
agriculture.
Biomass can replace coal in power plants because it
produces less sulfur dioxide than coal.

Biomass makes up about 7,000 Megawatts of renewable

electricity.
GEOTHERMAL
ENERGY
Geothermal energy is heat from within the earth. We can use
the steam and hotwater produced inside the earth to
heat buildings or generate electricity

Geothermal energy is generated in the earth's core, about

4,000 miles below the surface.

Temperatures hotter than the sun's surface are

continuously produced inside the earth by the slow decay of
radioactive particles
Geothermal power plants do not burn fuel to generate electricity, so
their emission levels are very low.
ADVANTAGES
OF RENEWABLE
RESOURCES
• Renewable energy is natural source of
energy and can replenish itself easily over
short period of time. It comes from common
sources like solar power, running water, and
wind.
•They are limitless and hence one can be
dependent on them unlike fossil fuels.
•It is quite affordable and can be availed to
many people as an alternative for non
renewable sources at economical cost.

•Pollution free environment

•Promotes healthy living

• Helps in making wise utilization of all
available resources

•Fights against global warming

CONCLUSION
The renewable sources are cost effective, user-friendly, so
that they can easily beat the fossil fuels

By promoting renewable energy sources we can avoid, Air

pollution, soil pollution and water pollution

Country’s Economy will increase

So, encourage the research and development activities
covering a broad spectrum of possible renewable resources, as
their contributions are substantial
