INTRODUCTION

• It is new multi-purpose hall and 24 holiday

homes.
• They made spaces for a range of experiences,
giving any visitor regardless of handicap the
opportunity to engage in physical activities and
extend their own boundaries.
• Musholm is situated by the Great Belt’s beautiful
coastline and has received recognition as the
world’s most socially inclusive building
• This amazing space clearly demonstrates that
buildings can easily be beautiful and disability-
friendly at the same time.

3
DESIGN

• The expansion is based on a simple layout where

the new multi-purpose hall will be placed at the
heart of the holiday centre.
• The new holiday homes will be located in the
periphery of the holiday centre.
• Allowing life and activities to spread outwards
like ripples from the new multi-purpose hall to the
new holiday homes in this manner
• the layout creates a robust framework for the
holiday centre where the view over the bay and
landscape is taken full advantage of.

MULTI-PURPOSE HALL
• The multi-purpose hall is an example of how AART
architects have integrated accessibility as a creative
element to inspire and challenge users.
• Based on close dialogue with current and future users,
they has created such novel ideas as a 100 metre
experience ramp.
•  The ramp winds its way around the hall, offering a
wealth of activity zones and culminating in a viewing
room from where Musholm’s location overlooking the
sea and scenic landscape is revealed.

6
DESIGN DETAILS
• Designed as a circular building, the holiday homes adapt to
the landscape and existing buildings and at the same time,
the circular gesture provides shelter in the open landscape
and accentuates a sense of community
• The interaction with the scenic surroundings is underlined
by the consistent use of wood.
• For instance, the facades on the hall and holiday homes are
covered with larch wood, while the floors, walls and
ceiling in the hall are covered with ash wood.

A 110 METRE-LONG ACTIVITY RAMP

• An activity ramp with landings and

recreational zones brings the visitors up
onto a plateau where wheelchair users
can engage in activities such as trying
their hands at a climbing wall or the
world’s first cable-lift for wheelchair
users.
• The activity ramp thereby further boosts
the image of Musholm as a place that
goes beyond traditional boundaries and
invites people regardless of their
disability to play, have experiences and
form new communities.
• The multi-purpose hall is designed as a
multi-functional development nucleus
with a 110 metre-long activity ramp.

8
APPEALS TO THE
SENSES

• It also raises the bar for socially sustainable

architecture by giving all visitors, regardless of
their disability, the opportunity to participate in
fun holiday experiences.
• The expansion therefore establishes new standards
for how accessible solutions can be integrated into
architecture so that it not only appeals to the
senses, but also motivates people to join activities
and communities.
