INTRODUCTION

 Mainly trucks, dumper and tractor are the hauling

equipments or unit.

 It should have high traveling speed when

operating on suitable roads, providing relatively low
costs.

 Specially, trucks provide high degree of flexibility

permitting modification in the total hauling capacity
of the fleet and adjustments for changing distance.

4
INTRODUCTION

most trucks may be operated over any haul road

for which the surface is sufficiently firm and smooth
and on which the grade are not excessively steep.

Some trucks are now used are designated as off

highway trucks because their load and size are not
permitted on public roads or highways.

These trucks are used for hauling material on

large project site where their size and cost are
justified.

5
CLASSIFICATIO
N

6
Classified according to a number of
factor affecting:
 Size and type of engine
(diesel, gasoline, butane, propane)
 No. of gears
 The kind of drive two wheel, four wheel, six
wheel etc.
 The number of axels and arrangement of
driving wheels
 Method of dumping
(rear dump, side dump, front dump)
 The class of materials haul like
earth,rock,coal,ore etc.
 The capacity in tones or cubic yards. 7
Trucks are selected on the basis
of the hauling distance.

8
Dump truck are classified as:
Rear dump truck

Front dump truck

Side dump truck

9
REAR DUMP TRUCK

10
REAR DUMP TRUCK

 Rear Dump Truck are used very widely in

construction project.

The material is to be hauled is to be free flow

material or has very bulky components

The hauling unit must dumped into restricted

locations or over the edge of bank or fill.

Maximum maneuverability in the loading or

dumping area is required.

11
BOTTOM DUMP TRUCKS

12
BOTTOM DUMP TRUCKS

Bottom dump trucks are used

when:
The material is to be hauled is free
flowing.

There are unrestricted loading and

dump sites.

13
BOTTOM DUMP TRUCKS

14
ARTICULATED TRUCKS

IT CAN BE OPERATE OVER BAD GROUND.

15
CAPACITY OF DUMP TRUCKS
There are three methods for
expressing the capacity of trucks or
wagon.

 by the load it will carry, expressed

gravimetrically in tones.

By its struck volume

By its heaped volume

16
CAPACITY OF DUMP TRUCKS

 The struck capacity of truck is the

volume of the material which it will
haul when it is filled level to the top of
the sides of the body.

 The heaped capacity of truck is the

volume of the material which it will
haul when the load is heaped above
the sides.

17
CAPACITY OF DUMP TRUCKS

Manufacturer’s specification sheets will list

both struck and heaped capacity.

Both capacity are depends on the:

 material type
hauling distance
road surface
capacity
Environmental condition

18
CAPACITY OF DUMP TRUCKS
STRUCK CAPACITY

Material measured straight away

across the top of the body.

19
CAPACITY OF DUMP TRUCKS
HEAPED CAPACITY

It is depend on the 2:1 slope above

hauler bodies.

20
CAPACITY OF DUMP TRUCKS

The Heaped capacity will vary with the

height and the angle which the material
may extended above the sides.

 wet earth or sandy sand may be

hauled with a slope of about 1:1.

 dry sand or gravel may not permit a

slope of more than 3:1.

21
PERFORMANCE AND
CAPABILITY OF TRUCKS
Productive capacity of the truck depends on
the following factors:

 size of its load

Number of trips in hour

Traffic obstruction

Environmental condition

22
PERFORMANCE CAPACITY

Size of the load can be determined from

the specification furnished by the
manufacturer.

No of trips per hour depends on

Weight of the vehicles

Engine capacity
The haul distance
Condition of the haul road

23
PERFORMANCE CAPACITY

24
Balancing the capacity of hauling
units with its size.

25

TRUCK PRODUCTION
STEP 5: DUMP TIME

This will depend on

the type of hauling
unit.

Rear dump must be

spotted before
dumping

Total dump time can

not exceed 2 minutes.

39
CONCLUSION

For all hauling equipments, loader first

dump in to the equipments and then
after hauling equipment can able to
dump it at its desired places.

So, hauling equipment are useful for

the supply or transfer material from one
place to another place for fulfill site
requirements.
