BETWEEN STUDENTS’ ANXIETY,
VOCABULARY MASTERY, AND
SPEAKING SKILL”
Background of the article

The background of this research is based on the anxiety


experienced by a large number of students when speaking
English in class or giving presentations in front while at least
during working in pairs, many variables such as lack of
vocabulary, low English skills and memory dissociation
contribute to students' anxiety. In class, and most of the students
feel helpless because of anxiety when speaking English in class.

of class XI A3 from SMA Negeri 1 Kartasura in the
academic year of 2011/ 2012.

5. Data analysis techniques


The techniques used to analyze the data are simple and multiple
regression and correlation by using SPSS 18.
6. Research result
There are three conclusion:
• negative correlation between students' anxiety and speaking skill
• positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking skill
• positive correlation between students' anxiety, vocabulary mastery, and speaking
skill simultaneously
Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is a positive
relationship between student anxiety and vocabulary mastery on speaking skills in
class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Kartasura.

“The Correlation between Learning Style and
English Learning Outcome at
First Grade Students SMA PGRI 2 Jambi in
Academic Year 2018/2019"
Background of the article
The background of this research is because these recent
decades, the studies concerning learning style and
learning achievement are increasing to find out whether
those two things are correlated significantly or not. Most
of those studies are done in secondary or senior high
school level because in this stage the learners are starting
to decide.

2. Data collection techniques
The sampling technique used in this study is proportionate stratified random
sampling.
3. Data collection instrument
This study used the Barsch Learning Style Inventory (BLSI) questionnaire as the
instrument of the research to find out learners’ learning style in 3 areas (Visual,
Auditory and Kinesthetic).
The questionnaire consist of 24 items with 4 Likert-scale.
4. Participants
This study had 28 students as participants in this study and they were drawn
from 5 classes (X MIA 1, X MIA 2, X IIS 1, X IIS 2 and X IIS 3).

5. Data analysis techniques


The correlation coefficient was analyzed using the SPSS 16 program.

6. Research result
From the quantitative analysis it shows that learning strategies has negative
correlation with English learning achievement for the majority of the first
graders at SMA PGRI 2 Jambi academic year 2018/2019. Therefore, it can be
concluded that the hypothesis was confirmed with overall learning strategy,
visual and kinesthetic.

“A CORRELATION STUDY BETWEEN
STUDENTS’ LISTENING SKILL AND
STUDENTS’ PRONUNCIATION ABILITY"
Background of the article
listening test is now included in students’ final exam. But in fact, there are
still just a few efforts from the teacher to check or even to develop
students’ listening skill if it compares with other skills. An investigation
on correlation between students’ listening skill and students’ pronunciation
ability of the second year students of senior high school is conducted to
find out whether or not there is a significant correlation between students’
listening skill and students’ pronunciation ability.

2. Data collection techniques


Test with several step:
• was constructing the listening test and pronunciation test
• trying out the instrument
• collecting and analyzing the listening test and pronunciation test
• conducting the research
• obtaining the scores of vocabulary test and translation test
3. Data collection instrument
1) Listening test with 28 multiple-choice questions.
2) Pronunciation test with 28 items.
4. Participants
This study had 20 students of class XI SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Semarang in the
academic year 2012/2013.

5. Data analysis techniques


statistical analysis that was used was Pearson’s Product Moment formula. The data,
then, was calculated using SPSS.

6. Research result
After conducting the research, it was found that the average score of the students’
listening skill was in good level. On the contrary, their pronunciation score was
poor, it means that there is no significant positive correlation between the two
variables and the correlation is considered to be low.
