Ansel Adams Photographer

Analysis
Basic Information

Ansel Easton Adams was an American landscape photographer and environmentalist known
for his black and white images of the American West. The photo I have chosen shows a large
river flowing by some mountains surrounded my lots of trees and wildlife. My eye is
immediately drawn to the river as it is a brighter white than the rest of the photo. I like the
fact that there is lots going on in the photo but it still doesn’t look to compact. Some of the
composition styles that Adams has used are the rule of thirds and leading lines. The lighting
in the photo is all from the sun but there isn’t too much light as there are lots of clouds
above the mountains. Some of the formal elements that Adams has used are texture and
shape. The purpose of these photos are to promote conservation of wilderness areas.
Camera settings
Adams has focused the camera on the lake leaving part of the mountain out of
focus. This means that the aperture is mid to high. I think that the shutter speed is
higher to create a still, sharp image.
I would like to take more photos of the environment after seeing Ansel Adams
photos.
