II. PROJECT SUMMARY

One of the priority projects of the Department of Education is the improvement of

the nutritional status of school children. Every School was advised to give
supplemental feeding. Budget will be taken from 35% of the school canteen proceed
but because of the pandemic the school canteen was temporarily closed .Along this
line, the school conceptualized a project dubbed as “Isang Pamilya, Isang Hanay ng
Gulay : A Gulayan saTahanan Project” so that parents will be encouraged to plant
different vegetables right at their homes surroundings such as pechay, eggplant,
squash, sili , Okra , string beans and etc. . With this, their children will be
encouraged to eat fresh vegetables to maintain their nutritional status.
Parents will have their vegetable garden in their backyard to be monitored by the
proponents. The needed materials like seeds and seedlings to be planted will be provided
by the proponent which will be sourced out from the Project AGBIAG of Sto. Domingo,
Quirino, Isabela and donations from other sharers. Other materials such as bond paper
for the manuscript, fertilizers for the seedlings and load for communication will also be
provided by the proponent with the assistance of stakeholders, school head and teachers
which will cost ₱12,720.
The preparation up to the dissemination of the result will take for about ten months from
October 2021-July 2022. In this light, the implementer embarked to improve the health
condition of the pupils through vegetables foods from Isang Pamilya, Isang Hanay ng
Gulay: A Gulayansa Tahanan Project and to maintain the garden for the sustainability and
monitoring by the proponent all year round supply. Most importantly this project will
establish home garden for food source of the pupils especially those who are identified as
malnourish. It is also to improve physical and mental the pupils to enhance learning.
Learning implications of vegetables from the home garden are reflected in the pupils BMI
and performance in the school. This project can also be provided extra income of family.
It is important to make the necessary steps needed to help the learners and
parents in maintaining and safeguarding especially in relation to the health and
studies of the pupils. Therefore, the Isang Pamilya, Isang Hanay ng Gulay : A
Gulayan saTahanan Project is conceived mainly to promote and improve the
health condition of children of San Vicente Elementary School, San Vicente,
Quirino, Isabela.
III. PROJECT BACKGROUND

Isang Pamilya, Isang Hanay Ng Gulay : A Gulayan saTahanan Project “is

an innovation of the EPP Club at San Vicente Elementary School which is
under the management of the project proponents Mrs. Nicel C. Agustin ,Chito
S. Cadorna Jr. and the supervision of the schools District Supervisor Dr.
Maribel M. Ancheta,PhD
Pandemic will never be a hindrance in fulfilling this project
especially that it deals with the proper nutrition of children. It never halts the
proponent in finding ways to make the project into reality.
The Location of the project will be outside the campus of the school. Planting
area will be on the backyard or surroundings of the parents. The proponent will
explain that gardening can be a fun and rewarding experience that allows them to
enjoy fresh air, exercise and practice a healthier diet. It is an activity that rewards
them with delicious, healthy and cheap food to eat. During this time many people are
working at home, students are learning at home, gardening can be rewarding, positive
endeavor and family - inclusive to adopt.
The Department of Education ensures the continuity of learning; same is true with
ensuring proper health of its pupils. To eliminate or lessen the numbers of
underweight pupils despite the pandemic, San Vicente Elementary School
encouraged their parents and pupils to plant vegetables at their own backyard
garden. As mentioned earlier, it will not only benefit the children regarding
sustainability but will embed in their consciousness the realization of how
important these vegetables, the nutrients and vitamins and the effect of healthy
living in their system.
Health is wealth. Knowing the nutritional values of the food that children take
will prove advantageous for their health and well-being. School foods as a mental
health benefits can improve educational quality and efficiency. With good and
nutritious foods habit have beneficial on mental health and widely held notion.
For example, some studies suggested that the positive effects of nutritious
breakfasts are not limited and improves children’s physical self-image also
academic or general self-worth. Data are beginning to shows that school-age
children may not, in fact, be healthier than younger children. Most important,
clinical trials show a critical link between learning and school children’s health
and nutrition, suggesting a substantial gain in education effectiveness from
improving children’s nutrition and health.
According to a study conducted by Eng et al. (2019), the most significant advantage of
gardening is enhanced social capital and connections. The effect of children working
together to plant and construct something significant is a more vital link between them.
Gardening with children can be a bonding relationship, according to Lehman (2013),
when it is pleasant and stress-free. On the other hand, Better Health (2013) noted that
by gardening as a family, adults might share their skills and expertise with youngsters,
and family members can learn together.
According to the school clinic body mass index (BMI) of some pupils are
under weight and or severely wasted affect 20% and 80% wasted out of 20
children benificiaries of the said project. Unfortunately, this project will be
measured the body mass index (BMI) of the pupils before and after
implementation of Isang Pamilya, Isang Hanay ng Gulay: A Gulayan sa
Tahanan in order to determine if there is improvement in the health of pupils
involved.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The project aims to accomplish the following:
a) To create vegetables home garden for every parents involved in this project
called Isang Pamilya, Isang Hanay: A Gulayan sa Tahanan.
b) To maintain the home garden for the sustainability and monitoring by the
proponent all year round.
c) To provide source of vegetables food through Isang Pamilya, Isang Hanay: A
Gulayan sa Tahanan Project for the extra income of family.
IV.PROJECT METHODOLOGY

The proponents will conduct virtual meeting with parents, teachers and School
Head to discuss the process and aims of Isang Pamilya, Isang Hanay ng Gulay: A
Gulayan sa Tahanan Project. Those who will not be able to attend the virtual meeting
will be visited by the proponent to echo what has been discussed in the virtual
meeting. Choose a site in their backyard space with sun, good soil and drainage and
probably most important of all close to water. They will be given different kinds of
seeds and seedlings which the proponent will be able to source out from the Project
AGBIAG of Sto. Domingo, Quirino, Isabela and donations from other sharers.
Planting vegetables such as pechay, eggplant, squash, sili , okra , string

beans and etc. Every parent of SBFP beneficiaries involved in the project has

their own plot in the home garden. Identified the tools needed in the garden

preparation the said garden will be monitored by the teachers to make sure that

parents plant, cultivate and take care of these. The vegetables that will be

harvested will serve as the food and be eaten by pupils/children to maintain

good health since vegetables are good source of vitamins that their body needs.
